As per a recent article by People, American actor Scott Porter recently revealed that he will let his children watch Friday Night Lights when they are a little older.
During the 2025 NAMI Mental Health Gala on May 8, the actor exclusively told People that his kids need to be a bit older before he allows them to watch his NBC series. Porter said he might wait until his elementary school-aged children reach middle school.
Porter attended the gala night at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, with his wife Kelsey Mayfield Porter. The couple shares two children, McCoy and Clover.
“I think we won't watch that show until both of [them] are maybe middle school age. So, I think I've got a little bit of time yet.” Porter told the publication.
Porter played the character of Jason Street on the NBC series from 2006 to 2011. He left the show in 2011 to pursue other opportunities.
He further told the publication that his kids had once seen him in a live-action project titled Taking the Reins, and they were confused as to why their father was with another woman in the film.
“They've only watched one live-action project that I've been in,” Porter told People. “It was a Hallmark moive called Taking the Reins. They were so confused why Daddy was with this other woman in the movie."
He had to explain to McCoy and Clover that it was a character he was playing. He also mentioned that his children enjoy his voice-over projects, such as His Amazing Friends and Spidey.
“I said, ‘That's not me. That's a character that I'm playing.’ They haven't quite grasped that yet, even though we do movie night every Friday. They see plenty of characters on-screen. I don't think they've detached real people from live-action characters yet. The animated — all of the video game stuff — they've seen a ton of that and they really enjoy it.”
Speaking about his strong bond with his wife, Mayfield, Porter emphasized the importance of finding the right partner.
“Just find your best partner. It's just about finding that partnership. She picks me up so often. I'm there for her when she needs me, and we always just check in with each other. ‘What's your battery at? Are you at 50%? I can carry a little bit extra load today, So, we check in with each other. We pick up that load.”
