Widely known for playing femme fatales in various films, actress and film producer Sharon Stone pays tribute to her late mother on social media. Sharon's mother, Dorothy Stone, died at the age of 91 on March 26, 2025. The Basic Instinct star took to her Instagram on July 21, 2025, and shared a picture of her and her late mother, with a caption that read:
"My hilarious, complex mother died. A product of the last depression, let’s NOT do this again. 🇺🇸 Let’s protect and care. She passed away just right two months ago. I’ve just processed it now. Thanks for your condolences."
Sharon Stone's father, Joseph Stone, who died at the age of 79 in December 2009, was the owner and founder of Aggressive Forge, a tool and die company. He was married to Sharon's mother, Dorothy, for six decades, and besides sharing Sharon with her, they also had three other children: a daughter, Kelly, and two sons, Michael and Patrick.
The Sphere actress had a difficult childhood growing up and did not share a healthy relationship with her father, Joseph. Reported by The List, in her memoir, The Beauty of Living Twice, Sharon Stone mentioned how her father had a bad temper and used to beat her often.
In her book, she also discussed how she stood up to her father and confronted him, ending his abuse once and for all. According to Daily Mail, in her book, she wrote:
"I walked up to him and said, 'What's the matter — do you need to hit me some more to feel like a man?' I was 14. He started to cry. I told him I didn't love him. That I had never loved him. That I would never love him. This was the moment of realization her father needed to change his ways. He was so heartbroken. He never hit any one of us again."
Sharon Stone calls her father an "extreme feminist"

While Sharon's late mother firmly believed in feminism, the Specialist actress also revealed that her late father, Joseph Stone, shared the same sentiment. During a conversation at the 2021 Zurich Film Festival about her childhood and family life as she was growing up, Sharon called her father an "extreme feminist," according to Variety. She explained by saying:
"He came from wealth, from oil drilling, and when he was little, there was a huge accident. His father died three months later and all the money went to another family."
Sharon Stone continued and said:
"He thought it was so wrong that his mother didn't get half of it, just because she was a woman. My dad was insistent that I have this feminist attitude. So much so that I never thought of myself as a feminist. These were the rules of my household."
