Stellan Skarsgård, a fierce talent on the big screen as well as on television, after several nominations over the years, has bagged a Golden Globe for his impeccable performance in Joachim Trier's family drama film, Sentimental Value. Stellan, 74, won the Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Globes on January 11, 2026. During his acceptance speech, Stellan took the opportunity to dedicate the award to his wife, Megan Everett Skarsgård.

The Good Will Hunting actor, Skarsgård, while accepting his award, instead of delivering a traditional speech, chose to talk about his wife, Megan Everett Skarsgård, whom he referred to as a "tough lover". Stellan Skarsgård said:

"But I'm not gonna spend the next six minutes to thank everybody in the credits of the film and they know I love them."

He continued and said:

"I've got to thank my wife. She's been amazing — a sort of brutal support, a tough lover and very educational. And also, my children have been very educational. I'm playing a father who is a bad father. My children have really taught me what a bad father is."

Stellan Skarsgård, who is widely known for his films across various genres, is also known for his collaboration with Danish filmmaker Lars Von Trier. He has starred in six Von Trier movies. Stellan has also worked with other prominent directors such as Denis Villeneuve, Gus Van Sant, and David Fincher, among others.

The Dogville actor married Megan Everett Skarsgård in 2009, as per People. Stellan and Megan share two sons, Kolbjörn and Ossian. Skarsgård was previously married to My Skarsgård, with whom he shares six other children.

According to People, Megan Everett Skarsgård is a screenwriter and film producer. She has worked on films and TV shows such as What Remains, German Autumn, and Fisher of Souls. Megan is also an author who writes children's books.

Besides dedicating his Golden Globe Award to his wife and thanking her, the Dogville actor took the opportunity to talk about watching films in theaters. As he referred to the collective experience of watching a movie on the big screen, he urged and requested the audience to make sure that they watch his film, Sentimental Value, and other films in theaters.

Stellan Skarsgård added:

"Hopefully you'll see it in a cinema because they're an [extinct] species now. In a cinema where the lights go down ... cinema should be seen in cinemas."

The family drama film, Sentimental Value, released in the US in November 2025, follows Gustav Borg, played by Stellan Skarsgård, who struggles while trying to re-establish a bond with her daughter Nora, played by Renate Reinsve. Things take a different turn and become complicated when Nora, an actress, decides not to star in his father's movie.

Stellan Skarsgård has previously won a Golden Globe in 2020 for his role in Craig Mazin's Chernobyl, an HBO original series, directed by Johan Renck. Other nominees in the Best Supporting Actor category at the 2026 Golden Globes included Sean Penn, Adam Sandler, Benicio Del Toro, Jacob Elordi, and Paul Mescal.
