Widely acclaimed film production designer Stuart Craig has reportedly passed away at the age of 83. The Oscar-winning production designer and art director's passing was confirmed by a Facebook post by the British Film Designers Guild on September 7.
The film association revealed Neil Lamont's message via the post and noted,
"It is with great sadness, that I report that my friend and mentor, Production Designer Stuart Craig passed away last night, 7th September 2025 aged 83, following a long battle with Parkinson’s disease."
Dubbing him the UK's most "revered film designers" and a "true giant", Neil elaborated on his experience and friendship with Craig. He wrote,
"The experiences I had on this film, not only allowed me to see Stuarts talent, his beautiful sketches, pencil drawings and vision, but also the way which he conducted himself in all walks of life, in the Studio, the car, restaurants. A true gentleman, with grace, kindness and humility."
He added,
"Stuart was very generous with his time and advice, always taking the time to share his knowledge and support those around him."
Tributes flow in as Harry Potter films production designer Stuart Craig passes away
Three-times Oscar winner, Stuart Craig, has passed away following a battle with health issues. From Gandhi to Harry Potter films, Stuart gave the film industry the best of his craftsmanship. In his tribute, his friend and fellow director, Neil Lamont, revealed that he was in awe of Stuart's work from the time he met him until he passed away.
Neil added that Stuart would go on to become one of the favorite production designers of all time, including creating the magic of Hogwarts and the Wizarding World. Neil wrote in his tribute,
"I replay all mine, all the time, he will never be forgotten. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him."
