Dr. Emmanuel Hostin, a prominent orthopedic surgeon and the husband of The View co-host Sunny Hostin, was dismissed from a federal lawsuit in which he had previously been accused of fraud.

A graduate of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Emmanuel Hostin completed both his residency and internship at the institution. He spent over 25 years practicing orthopedic surgery and sports medicine, gaining recognition for his work in complex joint procedures. US News listed him among the top specialists in his field.

Raised in New York by Haitian immigrant parents, he also took part in international medical relief efforts, including a mission to Haiti following the 2010 earthquake. During that time, his medical skills and cultural knowledge contributed to vital care in a region devastated by disaster. Emmanuel Hostin remained affiliated with Mount Sinai Morningside and Mount Sinai West and maintained a private orthopedic practice in Manhattan.

Dr. Emmanuel Hostin no longer faces legal scrutiny after a fraud case brought against him was formally dropped. The orthopedic surgeon was among the many defendants named in a civil RICO lawsuit filed by American Transit Insurance Company earlier this year.

As per Entertainment Weekly, ATIC initially claimed that Hostin had engaged in fraudulent medical practices, alleging he performed unnecessary arthroscopic surgeries and submitted false invoices in exchange for disguised payments. However, on Thursday, the company reversed course and confirmed that it had “voluntarily withdrawn the suit against Dr. Hostin, and dismissed the lawsuit with prejudice.”

ATIC also agreed to honor payments owed to Hostin for his services. The company said Hostin was included in the complaint due to his minor ownership in a surgical center at the heart of the legal dispute. It later admitted that further discussions and internal review led to the decision to drop him from the case entirely.

“Furthermore, ATIC deeply regrets any public speculation against Dr. Emmanuel Hostin, his wife, Sunny Hostin, or his children, which may have resulted from the lawsuit,” the company added.

Attorney Mark Geragos, representing the Hostin family, called the lawsuit an attempt to exploit public attention:

"American Transit, reportedly in financial straits and apparently in an attempt to avoid paying medical bills, named Dr. Emmanuel Hostin, a respected surgeon, in a lawsuit," Geragos said.
"In what can be described as a blatant attempt to weaponize Sunny Hostin’s celebrity, they tried to leverage a settlement. Dr. Hostin and Sunny refused to fold. They fought back, and today American Transit dismissed the case with prejudice, agreed to pay what was owed Dr. Hostin, and publicly apologized. Dr. Hostin, Sunny Hostin, and their family have been fully vindicated." he added.

How Emmanuel Hostin’s earthquake relief work in Haiti touched lives and earned rare gifts

As reported by Style, Dr. Emmanuel Hostin’s connection to Haiti wasn’t just ancestral, it was deeply personal. After the 2010 earthquake, he returned to the country to provide free medical care during the humanitarian crisis.

Sunny Hostin later spoke of the gratitude shown by patients who had little to give. Many offered Emmanuel intricate needlepoint pieces, some of the few valuables they owned, as a gesture of thanks.

“He did whatever he could and most people could not pay him,” Sunny explained.
“These needlepoints are often some of the most expensive things people owned… For them to give these to my husband was incredibly meaningful. They are priceless.” she added.

Sunny Hostin says she nearly dumped husband Manny over his height:

When Leah Remini’s reflections on her friendship with Jennifer Lopez came up during The View's Hot Topics segment, it sparked a broader discussion among the hosts about how they would respond if a close friend criticized their relationship.

Joy Behar turned to Sunny Hostin with a direct question: What would she have done if her longtime friend Regina Jansen had told her to drop Manny back when they started dating?

“She did the opposite, actually,” Hostin responded.
“I was going to cancel Manny because I thought he was too short, Regina told me he could stand on his medical degree, and he’d be tall enough. She gives good advice.” she recalled.
