Raja Jackson, son of retired UFC champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, is making headlines for allegedly assaulting Syko Stu.
As seen in videos going viral online, the Saturday, August 23 incident saw the younger Jackson sliding into the ring during another bout and apparently attacking the independent wrestler.
He shoved him to the mat before straddling him and punching his head, while Syko Stu lay there motionless. The other wrestlers eventually restrained Jackson, and USA Today has reported that Stu has since been hospitalised. Other outlets have reported that Stu has sustained broken facial bones and lost some of his teeth, and is in a critical but stable condition.
Per The Express Tribune, Syko Stu, whose real name is Stuart Smith, is an army veteran, having served in the military until he quit in 2009. He has since been struggling with PTSD, per the outlet, and turned to wrestling via KnokX Pro as a means to find focus and stability.
He also reportedly lost his mother in 2020, The Tribune has reported, and has long been vocal about his troubles with adjusting to civilian life since leaving service. Based in California, he made his wrestling debut in 2017 and seemingly trained under the WWE icon Rikishi, as reported by Sportskeeda.
Everything we know about Raja Jackson's unexplained alleged violence against Syko Stu:
The Sporting News has reported that the MMA fighter was expected to fight Syko Stu at the KnokX Pro Wrestling Event in Los Angeles that night, though the bout seemingly went off script. The Los Angeles Police Department is currently looking into the incident.
Sean Ross Sapp, a wrestling journalist, took to X shortly after to give an update that Smith was "rushed to the hospital with serious injuries."
"What was supposed to be a planned and agreed upon wrestling spot, turned into a selfish, irresponsible act of violence against Mr. Smith," KnokX Pro Wrestling said in a statement on Facebook on Sunday, Aug. 24. "This egregious act is reprehensible and never should have occurred."
Andrew Smith, Syko Stu's brother, also issued an update on Facebook confirming that his brother was "stable but in critical care."
Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, the UFC champion, has since weighed in on the debacle, referring to the incident as a case of “bad judgment, and a work that went wrong.”
"I want to clear up the misinformation about my son Raja. I’ve been confirmed that the wrestler ( Stewart Smith aka Syko Stu) is awake and stable. Raja was unexpectedly hit in the side of the head by him moments before Smith’s match, Raja was told that he could get his “payback”in the ring, I thought it was apart of the show," he said on X.
He continued,
"Raja is a MMA fighter not a pro wrestler and had no business involved in an event like this. I don’t condone my son’s actions AT ALL! He suffered a concussion from sparring only days ago and had no business doing anything remotely close to physical contact. As a father, im deeply concerned with his health AND the well being of Mr. Smith. That being said I’m very upset that any of this happened, but my main concern now is that Mr. Smith will make a speedy recovery.I apologize on his behalf and to KICK for the situation."
NBC News has reported that Norma Eisenman, a spokesperson for the LAPD, has since confirmed that officers responded to the incident on the night in question, but no arrests were made. As of this writing, Raja Jackson himself has yet to address the debacle. However, the debacle was livestreamed on his Kick account, which has since been suspended.
"KICK’s community guidelines make it clear that excessive violence is not permitted," a statement from the licestreaming platform confirmed. "Content in breach of our guidelines is removed and users will be suspended or banned."
