Kevin Ware Jr., a former San Francisco 49ers player, has pleaded guilty to the murder of Taylor Pomaski. According to reports from KPRC-TV, KRIV-TV, and the Houston Chronicle, the ex-NFL pro took the plea deal from the prosecutors and was sentenced to 30 years' imprisonment days before the murder trial began.

Taylor Pomaski was Ware’s girlfriend and a Texas native who went missing four years ago. According to ABC 13 Houston, Kevin was out on a $23,000 bail bond in April 2021, following his arrest due to drug and weapon charges, when he reportedly had a violent fight with his partner. The fallout happened during a get-together at Ware’s Klein-area residence.

The party was the last time Taylor Pomaski was seen alive. While the search was still underway, Kevin Ware was apprehended in June of that year, according to ABC 13 Houston. The ex-football pro had reportedly stopped appearing at court for bond supervision hearings in April and May, around the same time Taylor Pomaski went missing.

At the time, the Harris County investigators considered Ware a person of interest in the case of his girlfriend’s disappearance, but he wasn’t named as one of the suspects. However, according to ABC 13 Houston, Taylor Pomaski’s longtime friend, Eric Zuleger, told the station in a past conversation,

“She was in danger, and she was in trouble. There was violence, she referenced a gun being pulled on her. She was very scared, very nervous.”

Zulegar reiterated in June,

“She's a beautiful, beautiful person inside and out and we're really worried about her.”

The remains of Kevin Ware Jr.’s girlfriend weren’t discovered for months after she went missing. According to a Inside Edition report from 2021, Taylor Pomaski was from the Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She worked as a former master data specialist at LyondellBasell, a global chemical, plastic and refining company.

Shortly after she vanished, Taylor's concerned mother Leslie Mandeville, and father Steven Pomaski reportedly told Inside Edition Digital:

"We are desperate to find her. We miss her and we love her."

Taylor Pomaski’s remains were found in December 2021, eight months after her disappearance

Kevin Ware Jr.’s partner went missing under suspicious circumstances on April 25, 2021, while the American Football player was a person of interest at the time. It took almost eight months to discover the remains of the deceased victim. After a joint search operation of Harris County investigators and Texas EquuSearch, they found unidentified human remains at a site in North Harris County.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez issued a statement confirming the crucial breakthrough in the case while still awaiting identification.

“At this time, investigators are unclear on the identity of the remains, but investigators believe them to be related to the Pomaski case.”

On April 30, 2022, the authorities officially confirmed that the remains were of Pomaski. According to NBC News, the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences made the identification. Thomas Gilliland of the Harris County Sheriff's Office also told the outlet in a statement via email,

“The investigation is still open and active and homicide investigators are diligent on bringing this case to a close.”

Kevin Ware Jr., who was already facing drug and weapon charges, was indicted in Taylor’s murder in July 2022. According to court documents (via the New York Post), the ex-NFL pro was charged with killing his girlfriend and tampering with the corpse. Per the NY Post,

“[Ware] cut her with a knife, hit her with a blunt object, strangled her and then burned her corpse.”

According to the Houston Chronicle, the court documents also stated that Kevin Ware Jr. told a woman about cutting Taylor Pomaski’s throat in the shower and later burning her deceased body. Later that year, the former Washington Redskins player pleaded guilty to the drug and weapon charges.

On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the prosecution offered Kevin Ware Jr. a plea deal. Per a report from the Houston Chronicle, a quick answer was demanded from the defendant by Judge Brian Warren. Ware was reminded that the deal might expire, and he could face life in prison.

Following a short break, the accused returned and accepted the deal, and pleaded guilty to the killing of Taylor Pomaski.
