Taylor Swift’s path to fame has always been tied to her family. Her parents, Scott and Andrea Swift, along with her brother Austin, played pivotal roles in her early years as an artist. At only 13 years old, Swift signed a development deal with RCA Records. Her family’s commitment ran so deep that they moved from Pennsylvania to Tennessee so she could be closer to Nashville. Speaking on CBS Sunday Morning in 2019, Swift recalled,
“My parents were unbelievable. I will never forget that. And my brother [Austin]. My brother’s a real bro for doing that.” she shared.
Scott Swift and Andrea’s own story began years earlier. The two married in February 1988, Scott having built a career as a stockbroker, later becoming vice president at Merrill Lynch, and Andrea having worked as a mutual fund marketing executive. Just over a year later, they became parents to Taylor Alison Swift, born December 13, 1989.
Taylor Swift’s dad Scott balanced finance, fandom, and fatherhood on her journey

Scott Swift had long been a fixture in Taylor Swift’s orbit, both as a father and as a behind-the-scenes supporter of her career. A former stockbroker who became vice president at Merrill Lynch, he brought that financial acumen with him when Taylor’s music dreams began to take shape. As shown in the 2020 Netflix documentary Miss Americana, Scott played an active role in the management side of her career.
Of course, he was also known for his lighter side. In a 2009 MySpace post, Taylor shared how her dad delighted in teasing her while on tour.
“My dad is along the ride for this trip. He’s a social butterfly, and loves being on tour, he loves it so much, he thinks it’s absolutely hilarious to embarrass me as much as possible. For example, walking into the hotel lobby after returning from dinner[…] from out of nowhere: ‘HEY! THAT’S TAYLOR SWIFT!!’ Me: ‘Dad. Please stop doing that.’” she shared.
Beyond his professional and parental roles, Scott even shifted his football allegiance. A lifelong Philadelphia Eagles fan, he was persuaded to root for the Kansas City Chiefs, thanks to Taylor’s relationship with tight end Travis Kelce. The switch drew playful ribbing from Travis’s brother, Jason Kelce, who laughed on their New Heights podcast:
“What are we doing, Scott? You’re gonna let this man’s devilishly good looks and relationship with your daughter sway you from a lifetime of fandom, Scott? This is ridiculous.”
Taylor Swift shared how her mother supported her earliest attempts to land a record deal:

From a young age, Taylor Swift pursued her dreams with determination. Her mother, Andrea Swift, supported her at every step, even driving her to Nashville so she could hand out demo tapes of karaoke performances.
“My mom waited in the car with my little brother while I knocked on doors up and down Music Row,” Taylor recalled to Entertainment Weekly in 2008.
“I would say, ‘Hi, I’m Taylor. I’m 11. I wanted a record deal — call me.’” she added.
That trip didn’t yield any callbacks, but it marked a turning point. Returning home, Taylor decided to pick up the guitar and shift her focus to songwriting as a way to stand out. Though her parents initially suggested her fingers were “too small” for a 12-string guitar, she refused to back down. Andrea remembered her daughter’s resolve clearly:
“Don’t ever say never or can’t do to Taylor. She started playing it four hours a day — six on the weekends.”
Taylor Swift’s fiancé Travis Kelce asked her parents for blessing before proposal:
Travis Kelce’s proposal to Taylor Swift came with a classic touch ,and a nod to family tradition. Before popping the question, Kelce asked Andrea and Scott Swift for their blessing, a source told Us Weekly. The engagement was later confirmed with photos the couple shared on Instagram.
According to another insider, Kelce’s approach was intentional from the start.
“Travis is incredibly thoughtful. He had a clear vision of what he wanted, he did it almost entirely on his own. He knows her so well and what she likes — a timeless, classic, vintage touch.” the source shared.
The NFL star also focused on choosing a ring that reflected Swift’s style.
“He was very observant and in tune with her preferences," the source added.
Since going public with their romance in September 2023, after Swift appeared at one of Kelce’s Chiefs games, the couple had steadily blended their families. Swift’s parents and brother Austin often joined her in cheering from the stands, while Kelce famously won over Scott Swift, once an Eagles loyalist , with a Chiefs-branded lanyard.
