British Olympic diver Tom Daley recently made headlines when he announced who he would want to play him in a biopic. On the Just for Variety podcast, Daley said he thinks Tom Holland would be an ideal pick to portray him in a film, as the two men are both athletic and have a similar energy.

"Tom Holland. He’s got the gymnastic-y vibe. I feel like we’re quite similar in that. So I reckon Tom Holland could maybe do that," he said during the podcast.

Following the statement, there has been a renewed interest in Tom Daley's personal life, especially his relationship with his husband, Dustin Lance Black.

Dustin Lance Black is a well known American screenwriter, director, and LGBT rights activist. According to People, the couple first met at a dinner in 2013 right at the time when Daley came out publicly. During the initial stages, they managed to sustain a long-distance relationship and later got married in 2017 at Bovey Castle in Devon, England.

"8 years ago we met at a dinner, we lived on opposite sides of the pond and thought it was going to be impossible to make it work...but we did!" Tom Daley wrote in a 2021 Instagram post.

Black, who hails from Los Angeles, won an Oscar for writing Milk, a film about the life of gay rights activist Harvey Milk. He has additionally worked on Under the Banner of Heaven and J. Edgar and built a good resume in Hollywood.

More about Dustin Lance Black and his relationship with Tom Daley

Apart from film, Black is a major figure in LGBTQ+ activism. One of his most influential moments came during his acceptance speech at the 2008 Academy Awards, when he spoke to young LGBTQ+ people, assuring them of their worth, and that there would be equality one day.

"To all of the gay and lesbian kids out there tonight who have been told that they are less than by their churches or by the government or by their families, you are beautiful, wonderful creatures of value," he said during the speech.

Tom Daley and Black are parents to two sons — Robbie who was born in 2018 and Phoenix who was born in 2023, both through surrogacy. The pair has been candid about their journey to becoming parents and their dedication to sharing the truth of their children’s origins with them.

"I don’t think we’ll ever hide anything from him, in fact I know we won’t. That’s not just our instincts, that’s listening to the advice from people born of surrogacy," Black told Telegraph.

The family recently moved home to Los Angeles following a legal dispute in the UK which saw Black wrongly accused of assault. The case was later dismissed.
