Andre Murillo has increasingly become a subject of interest among fans curious about Tori Kelly’s personal life. The singer, who gained fame through American Idol, married him in 2018. Andre Murillo was born in Bremerhaven, Germany, in 1990 to a German mother and an American father serving in the US Army, as Today has reported.
Towering at 6 feet and 7 inches, Murillo carved his path in basketball, playing the sport through high school, college, and eventually at the professional level in Europe. In 2008, he graduated from El Toro High School in Lake Forest, California, where he was named MVP. He later played collegiate basketball at Concordia University Irvine and Biola University, a Christian college based in California.

Tori Kelly and her husband Andre Murillo had reason to celebrate, People confirmed that the couple were expecting their first child. The Grammy-winning singer, who had been touring Europe with Ed Sheeran, spoke to the outlet about the joyful milestone.
“This year has already been full of highs — getting to perform in stadiums all summer, writing the most personal songs of my career and now getting to start a family with my amazing husband. We are just so grateful for what’s to come and can’t wait to meet this little gift from God,” she shared.
Kelly’s latest studio project, TORI., dropped in April 2024. The drop marked a significant comeback less than a year after she had been hospitalized for serious blood clots in July 2023. At the time of the release, she told People she had been feeling “amazing” and was managing her health with a “simple medication” and routine checkups.
Reflecting on that experience, she said,
“When I look at just my life, my career and getting to go on these tours, I'm just like, ‘I don't want to take anything for granted because life as I now have experienced is so fragile.’ I'm just holding people a little closer.”
Back in May 2020, the couple celebrated their second wedding anniversary. During an interview with E! News, Kelly opened up about the evolving nature of her relationship with Andre Murillo, sharing that they were still in the process of discovering new things about one another.
“It’s just, like, so beautiful, I think, to just be able to learn and grow together, I think commitment is just such a beautiful thing, because it’s like you’re accepting all of a person; the good or the bad. And when you get through those rough times, it just becomes even more beautiful.” she said.

Andre Murillo didn’t shy away from speaking about his past. In a profile with Biola University, he opened up about a near-fatal incident that changed the course of his life.
“During my time at Concordia, I nearly lost my life in a stabbing, which forced me to think about the reality of death and the meaning of life,” he shared.
The experience led to a period of personal struggle. Murillo admitted that in the aftermath, he "turned to drugs." He was later placed on probation and dismissed from the university.
“At that time, my main idols were basketball, teammates and drugs, I was absolutely devastated when I was kicked out of college,” he said.
Feeling “completely hopeless,” Murillo said he eventually cried out to God, asking for forgiveness.
"I was overcome by an overwhelming sense of love. I opened up the Bible and was given not only hope, but life. I was instantly saved from my drug addiction and fell in love with God. My tears of desperation turned into tears of repentance,” he explained.
