Who is Travis Kelce’s father? NFL star reveals not getting “birds and bees” talk from dad

The three-time Super Bowl champion, Travis Kelce, along with his brother, Jason, opened up about his father, Ed Kelce, on the June 18, 2025, episode of the New Heights podcast. Travis Kelce, who has been dating pop star Taylor Swift since 2023, got candid with Jason, who also happens to be an NFL star, about how they did not have the "birds and the bees" talk with their father, Ed, while growing up.

Ed Kelce, who joined Travis and Jason on the latest episode of their podcast, wasn't quite frank with his two boys about s*x while they were growing up. On the contrary, he left it for the boys to learn about in school. Jason said:

"I never got any advice on s*x from Dad. We never had the birds and the bees talk."

To which, Ed said:

"No we didn’t, no we didn’t."

Then Jason added:

"He left that to the Cleveland Heights Public School system."

Father of the Kansas City Chiefs football tight end, Travis Kelce, and the former Philadelphia Eagles football center, Jason Kelce, Ed Kelce, who is originally from Cleveland, was also passionate about football while growing up. As Ed belonged to a family with a military background, his priority was to join the armed forces and serve his country like many in his family did, not to mention some of them also served during the Second World War.

However, Ed decided to be a part of the Coast Guard when he was rejected by the army due to his pre-existing knee injury. Unfortunately, that did not happen either, as he eventually found out that he had Crohn's disease during boot camp. Travis Kelce's father finally ended up in the steel industry, where he had a successful career. Ed, who shares both his sons with Donna (also from Cleveland), whom he met while she was on her way to another date, eventually got married to her in the late 1970s.

As mentioned earlier, Ed was not one of those fathers who talked about s*x with Travis and Jason while they were growing up; however, he did share a bunch of tips on dating women. Travis Kelce, on the latest episode of New Heights, revealed his father's advice on dating women. Travis said:

"I remember I was trying to get a girl to figure out I was funny or cool in early middle school, sixth, seventh, eighth, maybe younger than that, and he had this funny way of … ‘Hey, just be her friend, just be cool with her. If she doesn’t like it, pretty girls all hang around pretty girls.’ I was like, ‘Alright, yeah, there you go. Just be friends with them.’"

While Ed revealed his advice, which he shared with his older son, Jason. Ed said:

"I do remember a brief discussion Jason and I had when he was at UC (university of Cincinnati). 'Yeah, I see these girls, but I really don’t know what to talk about.’ I told you then, and it’s true for every guy, any guy listening, ‘You know I play football and everybody talks about that, but tell me about you.’"

Ed continued and added:

"All you gotta do is shut up and let them talk about themselves and you ain’t gotta say another word. Nod your head and say, ‘Oh wow, yeah, cool.’ Add the comments in there to make her feel good. You don’t have to say nothing."
