Amanda Bynes is getting candid on why she's choosing to go on Ozempic to help with her weight loss journey.

The former child star, who has long been vocal about her mental health struggles, which have, in turn, impacted her weight, took to her Instagram story this week that she is now resorting to the popular drug.

“I’m going on Ozempic. So excited,” the 39-year-old shared on Sunday, June 22. “I’m 173 [pounds] now, so I hope to get down to 130, which would be awesome.”

As for why she's doing this, she said it's “so I look better in paparazzi pictures and you don’t see my double chin from strange angles." She also promised fans she'd share frequent updates on her “Ozempic journey.”

Amanda Bynes' weight loss journey explored:

Back in November 2024, Amanda Bynes shared a screenshot on her Instagram Stories from her fitness app, which indicated that at the time, she was walking a staggering 14 K+ steps, covering 6.60 miles and burning 481 calories. Her flight count clocked in at 12.

“Down 6lbs! 154lbs now,” she captioned her story.

The update followed a candid post in March last year on Instagram, where Amanda Bynes reflected on her struggles with depression, mental health, and its consequent weight gain.

“I’ve gained over 20 lbs. in the past few months from being depressed,” she wrote at the time. “I’m doing a lot better now and have learned to do opposite action when I don’t feel like working out or eating clean.” “I weigh 162 lbs. right now and want to get back to 110 lbs,” the former actress added.

Back in 2018, Amanda Bynes spoke to Paper Magazine about the severe body image insecurities she dealt with in her heyday as an actress, causing her to quit acting in 2012. She specifically pointed to her work on She's the Man, where she portrayed a girl pretending to be her twin brother.

“When the movie came out and I saw it, I went into a deep depression for 4-6 months because I didn’t like how I looked when I was a boy,” she told the outlet at the time. The short hair and boyish look she had was “a super strange and out-of-body experience. It just really put me into a funk.”

According to People Magazine, the former child star then began dabbling with ecstasy and cocaine, and in an attempt to lose weight, she developed an Adderall addiction. Post 2012, she was arrested several times for DUIs, reckless driving, and more.

In 2013, she was placed under an involuntary psychiatric stay, which her parents eventually ended up extending for an additional six months.

At the time, they stated in their court filings that Amanda Bynes “is obsessed with the idea that she and others are ‘ugly.’ She talks incessantly about cosmetic surgeries that she wants to have completed … We are concerned that the surgeries she wants to have are dangerous and detrimental to her health.”

During this time, the former Nickelodeon star's mother, Lynn Bynes, was granted temporary conservatorship to helm her daughter's medical decisions and other affairs.

In the years since then, Amanda Bynes has been on a sober journey. She has since launched her own podcast, which she had to take a break from due to its low success rate. She has also gotten her manicurist license, the journey of which she has frequently documented online.
