Broadway stars Anthony Ramos and Jasmine Cephas Jones, who were Hamilton‘s most popular pairing outside the show, reconnected on a public stage at the 2025 Tony Awards, four years after they called off their engagement.

The former couple didn’t walk the red carpet together, but both showed up at an event celebrating the 10th anniversary of the iconic musical, which led to many people wondering why the couple called it quits when it came to their relationship.

In late 2021, rumors of a split between the two began to rise to the surface, and by November, it was reported that the engagement was off. According to Swoon, while the couple never issued a public statement regarding the breakup, rumors swirled about Ramos after a video appeared of him with a woman at a club. The video prompted accusations of infidelity from multiple sources.

Anthony Ramos did not publicly confirm the cheating rumors, but in his 2023 song Villano, he seemed to allude to the breakup. Lyrics like “I left you with a rock on your hand, yeah, I ran with my demons” and allusions to a night at a club suggested the events that might have led to the dissolution of the relationship.

In his song, he referenced media backlash and implied that the incident got a lot of attention. Ramos and Cephas Jones have kept much of their controversial breakup private. All traces of shared moments have been removed from their social media accounts, and they’ve mostly steered clear of talking about each other in recent interviews.

A look into Anthony Ramos and Jasmine Cephas' relationship timeline

Anthony Ramos and Jasmine Cephas Jones first crossed paths during rehearsals for Hamilton in 2015. Both were cast in pivotal roles, Ramos as John Laurens and Philip Hamilton, and Cephas Jones as Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds.

According to People Magazine, that chemistry was present from day one, even getting the approval of Lin-Manuel Miranda, who remembered Ramos staring at his co-star when the team read through the show for the first time. They were a couple officially by February of that year.

They were seen together at awards shows and on red carpets and even collaborated creatively, like in the music video for Mind Over Matter by Ramos. In interviews, they gushed about each other, frequently celebrating what they had learned and experienced together.

Jasmine Cephas Jones walked the red carpet at the 2025 Tony Awards in a gorgeous black sequin dress. Anthony Ramos, meanwhile, went for a slim black suit. Though the duo was not seen together, their presence at the event was enough for people to reminisce about the duo's past relationship.
