Why Did I Get Married 3 has officially gone into development. The film will be the third installment in the comedy-drama genre, with Tyler Perry once again helming it. The franchise began in 2007, and its success led to a sequel titled Why Did I Get Married Too? that came out in 2010.

Tyler Perry confirms Why Did I Get Married 3

On Wednesday, Tyler Perry confirmed that Why Did I Get Married 3 is officially taking place. He took to Instagram to share the first page of the film's table draft, which he wrote. Its caption read,

“I’m just gonna sit this right here!”

Perry also tagged the cast of the original film in the post, including Lamman Rucker, Tasha Smith, Janet Jackson, Michael Jai White, Jill Scott, and Sharon Leal. This might be seen as a possible hint that these actors might reprise their roles in the third installment.

In December 2024, Perry was asked about the threequel, which he refuted. He said,

“I don’t think so. I want to, but it’s a lot of logistics to try to get it together, so hopefully we can pull it together, but we’ll see … Everybody’s got things going on, so timing would have to fall in place and then everything else would have to fall in place.”

The first film in the franchise was written and directed by Perry, who also co-produced it with Reuben Canon. It was an adaptation of Perry's namesake play from 2003. The film focuses on four married couples who take a vacation to ponder the reasons for their marriage. Amid mixed critical feedback, the film grossed $55.9 million at the box office. Besides the off-camera responsibilities, Perry also played the role of Dr. Terry Brock in it.

It was followed by a sequel called Why Did I Get Married Too?, which was released in 2010. The follow-up was also a commercial success, grossing $60.7 million. Since then, the news of a third installment had been doing the rounds.
