Mexican rapper El Moreno Mexicano has been arrested and preliminarily charged with driving under the influence resulting in death, driving under the influence while endangering a person, driving under the influence with a blood alcohol level over .08 and driving without a license. The rapper was charged after a deadly crash in downtown Indianapolis which killed a 31-year-old passenger Aaron Radford.
The crash took place on September 20 near East Ohio and North East Streets, and a nearby detective reported the incident after hearing impact before seeing a red Charger vehicle skid across Ohio street and crash into an apartment building.
Police allege that Moreno and a female passenger tried to walk away from the crash before they were stopped. While reacting to the incident, El Moreno's brother, Elvis Josue Camacho Calleja took to his Instagram account to note that his brother was working hard to build his music career to only lose it all "within a snap." Calleja also said, "It's a tragedy for both families."
More about El Moreno's accident
El Moreno and a female passenger were stopped from fleeing the scene after the accident and taken to a nearby hospital to address their injuries. Police noticed that Moreno's breath gave off a strong alcoholic smell and that he had "bloodshot and glossy eyes" as per court documents.
When the officers attempted to conduct a blood alcohol level test, he refused. However, they later administered the test, after they were granted a warrant. Moreno admitted through a translator that he had been drinking at a downtown bar before the collision took place. The passenger riding with him also told officers that they consumed "a lot of alcohol" on the night and that Moreno ran through several red lights before the collision.
