"[He was] repeatedly abusing a panoply of legal and illegal drugs, including without limitation: cocaine, ecstasy, psychedelic mushrooms and steroids.”

Elsie Hewitt was later hospitalized, and sued the I Know What You Did Last Summer actor for one million dollars. The statement from her lawyer, read:

"Ms. Hewitt filed this case for all those women who have been abused. Such conduct is intolerable. Neither she nor I seek any money in this case and any money awarded will be donated to a battered women society.”

Ryan Phillipe, in his statement, explained his version of the events, saying:

"You know, this was an impasse. Nothing was changing. And she was refusing to leave until she got into the bedroom. And at one point, I thought that I was going to try to remove her from the premises and set her outside and close the door. Because I didn’t know what else to do."

He further added:

"And at that point, it hadn’t occurred to me to call the cops. I’m a famous person. I didn’t want to bring that kind of attention to me and my house. And so I attempted to pick her up like a baby. Carrying. Like a child. With one arm under the back and one arm under the legs. And she was flailing. And I made it one step, and I fell back on my bottom, holding her. And that was it."

Two years later, in October 2019, the former couple settled the matter out of court.

Elsie Hewitt was then linked to Benny Blanco, who is currently dating singer Selenea Gomez. The couple were first linked in 2019 and were later spotted attending the red carpet event of the Spotify Best New Artist program in 2020. According to reports, the couple separated that same year, after less than a year of dating.
