As per a recent article by US Weekly, former Minnesota Vikings star Everson Griffen was removed from a Delta flight minutes after takeoff.
The incident happened while the former American football defensive player was on his way from Chicago to Minneapolis, according to TMZ on July 16.
According to reports, the football defender caused a disturbance on the flight. Hence, the plane returned to O'Hare International Airport shortly after it took off so that Griffen could be escorted off.
A spokesperson for the airline told People Magazine that the crew followed procedures for removing an unruly passenger at Chicago O'Hare.
“Delta has zero tolerance for unruly behavior and will always work with law enforcement to that end. We apologize to our customers for the delay in their travel as safety and security comes before everything else at Delta.”
On Wednesday afternoon, Everson Griffen posted a video on his Instagram story of the plane pulling up at the airport.
Griffen wrote on Instagram "We out Chicago!!! It’s up, it better be!!!”
As per People, the Vikings ordered Griffen to go through a mental health evaluation after what the NFL described as 'verbal outbursts in practice,' according to a police report. Other incidents like these were also reported before, which involved the police, like the one where Griffen trespassed on his teammate Trae Waynes's residence.
Griffen did not face any criminal charges and spoke in an interview in April 2020 with the NFL that the 2018 incident showed how strong he was.
“I'm happy that 2018 happened, because I wouldn't be sitting here today, being able to tell my story and showing teams that I am strong, I am healthy and there's nothing really that you have to worry about, because I'm doing all the right things. There's nothing I'm doing behind the scenes that they should be worried about. I'm doing everything possible to make sure that 2018 doesn't happen again. And it will not happen."
Everson Griffen last played in the NFL during the 2020-2021 football season. He is also a four-time Pro Bowler. Before becoming a professional footballer, the Arizona native played football in college for the USC Trojans. He has also played for a short while for the Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys.
