RuPaul's Drag Race alum DeJa Skye reflected on her weight loss surgery and shares that it was one of the "darkest times" of her life. The drag queen, who had liposuction and a tummy tuck, revealed that she almost died after the surgery and opened up about the post-surgery complications. Though she became thinner, Skye admits that she regrets the surgery and still doesn't know why she did it.

DeJa Skye is a 35-year-old American Drag Queen who was a performer at RuPaul's Drag Race Season 14 and RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 10. DeJa began performing as a Drag Queen at the age of 20. Deja Skye is the stage name of Willie Redman.
On May 9, on the premiere episode of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, DeJa Skye shared with host RuPaul about the complications from a weight loss journey. Skye shared,
"It wasn't a very good experience, if I'm being honest...My body was like, 'No'...It was crazy, like, I legit almost died. And that was the darkest time, just sitting in the hospital bed alone and being like, 'Why did I do this to myself?'
According to US Weekly, in 2023, Skye underwent weight-loss surgery, liposuction, and a tummy tuck in Mexico. The surgery, as reported by People magazine, helped her lose about 60 Pounds. Skye further shared that she still doesn't know why she got the surgery.
"If I’m being 1,000% honest, nobody went to me and went, ‘You need to lose weight.’ I just got in my head and I over-thunk...Maybe it would help my career? Maybe it would help my drag?’ And in reality, I had it all before. It was just… I still don’t know why I did it."
DeJa Skye shares that she regrets the Weight-loss trip to Mexico
While talking about the weight loss surgery, DeJa Skye shared that she does regret it because she "almost died on the table" and further shared that the voices in her head are her worst "enemy."
"Do I regret it? I do...Obviously, I'm thinner, but I almost died on that table. And it made me realize that the voices in my head can be my worst f------ enemy, and I want to do better moving forward."

According to US Weekly, Skye detailed her experience post-surgery on an Instagram post in January 2024. Based on multiple reports, she faced multiple complications that landed her back in the hospital.
For instance, she shared that her skin turned yellow, which made her go back to the hospital and get blood transfusions. She also had to be put on blood thinners as she developed blood clots in her lungs and legs (which affected her ability to walk). The constant complications also affected her mental health.
According to People Magazine, while talking to RuPaul, Skye advised anybody considering liposuction or a tummy tuck to do "their research" and ensure that their "body is capable."
