Josh Brolin played the role of Brandon Walsh, aka Brand, in the 1985 film The Goonies. The character is an athlete in high school and is the elder brother of the protagonist, Michael Walsh.

Over the years, there have been multiple reports on the film's sequel. While the fans of the first adventure comedy film might be excited about it, Brolin is probably not convinced. The No Country for Old Men actor recently revealed why he isn't sold on the idea of a sequel.

Josh Brolin might not do The Goonies sequel

Josh Brolin was 16 years old when he featured in the 1985 film The Goonies, which was well-received both critically and commercially. But the actor might not be interested in doing its much-awaited sequel. While attending the premiere of Weapons, he said:

“I hope it does [happen] because the experience was so great. The movie is received so well, generation after generation. It’s just everything good about it. The trepidation that I have is that you release something else that taints that. I don’t want to taint what my memory of it [is].”

He further added,

“It’s like, ‘Oh, we came out with another,’ and then the Goonies grew up, and then they came out with their walkers and then they fell off a cliff because they couldn’t see very well, like, what are you going to do? I don’t know. Maybe it could be great. If it’s great, you’ll know, like if [story writer Steven] Spielberg approves it, you know it’s going to be good."

Josh Brolin revealed that Spielberg has not accepted any of the drafts of the sequel.

"But I think there’s been five scripts so far through the years and he hasn’t approved anything yet — so me being picky, Spielberg is picky, and he has a reason to be because he has great taste.”

Earlier, it was reported that Potsy Ponciroli was writing the script for Warner Bros. Pictures. Steven Spielberg, Holly Bario, and Kristie Macosko Krieger would produce it. Lauren Shuler Donner and Chris Columbus would be the executive producers.

The cast of The Goonies, including Josh Brolin, had earlier reunited during the foot imprint event for Ke Huy Quan in Los Angeles. More details about the film's director, cast, and other aspects can be expected to be revealed in the coming months.
