Joy Behar is getting candid about being fired from The View twice and how Barbara Walters felt about it.

During the Wednesday, September 10 episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Behar, 82, opened up about getting axed from the show:

“Barbara fired me at one point. Fired me twice, actually,” she told Cohen. “Okay, so one of the times that she fired me was just because they decided to fire me. Had something to do with a Democrat and a Republican. That’s what they told me.”

She also explained that Walters regretted her decision immediately after, but it was too late by then:

“So she sacked me, right? So we’re planning to tell the story on air, yeah? And during the commercial break she says to me, ‘Tell them you’ve changed your mind.’” Behar recalled. “I said, ‘Barbara, you just fired me. How am I supposed to change my mind?" She added, “They didn’t just bring me back, they begged me. Let’s be clear."

Everything we know about Joy Behar being sacked from The View and Good Morning America:

Us Weekly has reported that Joy Behar worked on The View in 1997. She started as one of the original panelists, though she was sacked from the show in 2013. In 2015, she made a comeback as a regular cohost.

Just this past June, Joy Behar spoke to Page Six about her sour encounters with Walters:

“She fired me a couple of times,” the comedian told the outlet at the time. “I spilled the beans that Rosie [O’Donnell] was coming on the show,” she recalled. “[Barbara] wanted to announce that Rosie was coming on the show at the Emmys and told us to keep it a secret.”

She said that she “forgot” to keep mum and accidentally told Entertainment Tonight.

Walters was “furious that I would have such a big mouth but she rehired me the same day.”

As for the second time she was fired, she said she had "no idea" what had happened. Nonetheless, she spoke to Time in July 2022 about having no qualms with how things played out:

"I was glad to be fired," she told the outlet. "I was basically was sick of the show at that point for some reason, I don't even remember why."

Notably, Joy Behar was also fired from Good Morning America in 2022. Per Mandatory, she previously spoke to Kumail Nanjiani about her departure:

“First of all, I’d like to say that when I was fired from ‘Good Morning America’ years ago — I was the worst receptionist they’ve ever had — and, this is a true story, I was fired, they took me to Chippendales as my goodbye present … so, anyway I’m familiar with Chippendales.”
