Actor Justin Berfield, who had previously left acting, is set to return as Resse in the revival of the popular Fox show "Malcolm in the Middle." A recent picture of the actor, who has been away from spotlight, was shared earlier this week by his co-star Frankie Muniz, showing a complete change in his appearance from his teenage years on the show. According to The List, Justin Berfield had previously quit acting to focus on production and other behind-the-scenes related work.

The original "Macolm in the Middle" series ran for seven season, from 2000 till 2006, during which it was nominated for seven Emmy awards across various categories. The news of the show's revival titled "Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair," was announced last year in December, with almost all the original actors returning alongside some new faces. The new show is set twenty-five years after the events of the original series and follows Malcolm, played by Frankie Muniz, as he returns to his family home with his daughter to celebrate his parents' 40th wedding anniversary.

More about Justin Berfield and his career after quiting acting, as fans express concern over his changed appearance from his time on the show

Justin Berfield was born in Agoura Hills, California on February 25, 1986. He began his career as a child actor after he being cast in a Folgers coffee commerical when he was just five years old. He later appeared in few short-lived shows, before gaining his breakthrough role as Resse in "Malcolm in the Middle."

According to Ladbible, after a six-year stint in the show, Justin Berfield decided to take a break from acting. In a 2011 interview with Agoura Hills Patch, he explained what prompted him to pursue behind-the-scenes work. He said:

"I realised that I had been on two shows that syndicated to over 100 episodes and that I felt fulfilled as an actor and decided to try my hand at producing. I think people constantly are looking for fulfilment, and nothing is ever good enough, but I feel fortunate enough to have had the journey I have had so far."

He further added:

"They’re both unique in their own ways, but I’m enjoying what I’m doing and where I’m at right now. It’s a whole new level of stress. It’s a different kind of stress, but they’re both rewarding."

According to The List, in 2004, Justin Berfield and Jason Felts started their own production company named J2TV Pictures, and just a year later, in 2005, they produced the show "Filthy Rich: Cattle Drive" which ran for one season. Apart from producing, Justin Berfield had also tried his hands at directing, having directed the 2007 TV movie titled, "The Pet Detective." In 2010, Berfield was roped in as the CCO of Virgin Produced, a subsidiary of the Virgin Group. He along with Josom Felts, who served as the CEO, produced several films like "Limitless," "Jobs," "Movie 43," "Immortals," "Machine Gun Preacher," among others.

In the recent viral picture posted by Frankie Muniz, fans spotted him along alongside Christopher Masterson, and Justin Berfield. However, it was Berfield's changed appearance that prompted many fans to express their concerns.

Since stepping away from spotlight, Justin Berfield tied the knot with girlfriend Liza Almeida in 2017. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter in 2020. The official release date for the much anticipated four-part "Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair" miniseries is yet to be announced.
