British actress Kate Beckinsale, known for her 2003 movie Underworld, has opened up after Blake Lively’s lawsuit against Justin Baldoni. On December 30, 2024, she shared a self-recorded video on Instagram detailing her previous experiences working on projects amidst difficult situations.
She clarified that she did not know either of the two actors as she had never met them. Despite that, she could relate to women's experiences of sharing their narratives of upsetting situations in the film industry.
The actress highlighted that these issues were not something veteran actors faced during their time. Nevertheless, she was grateful to Blake Lively for bringing it out.
“I am grateful to Blake Lively for highlighting the fact that this is not an archaic problem that no one’s facing. This is continuing and then when it does happen a machine goes into place to absolutely destroy you and I am sure that’s the case in other industries as well and it’s just got to stop,” Kate Beckinsale said.
She recounted an experience on a film set where she was referred to both over the walkie-talkie and directly to her face with a derogatory term by the end of production. This treatment arose after she expressed her struggles with working with her co-star who was intoxicated daily as he was dealing with personal challenges.
Despite her sympathy for him, she noted the significant delays caused, as both she and the crew had to wait up to six hours each day for him to learn his lines. As a result of this situation, Kate Beckinsale could not visit her daughter in the evening during the movie's shooting.
However, the studio suggested that she could use a bike to ride around the place while she waited for her co-star to finish learning his lines.
Kate Beckinsale said she was made to do a photo shoot after suffering a miscarriage
The actress described how she was put in an unsafe situation in two different films with two other actors. Kate Beckinsale claimed she was harmed during a fight situation and MRIs proved so. Her experiences did not end there as she said:
“I was gaslit and made to feel that I was the problem, blamed and ostrcised, left out of cast dinners, not spoken to as soon as I mentioned that there was a problem.”
Kate Beckinsale shared an experience where she was compelled by a publicist she employed to participate in a photo shoot the day after suffering a miscarriage.
Despite explaining that she was physically unwell, bleeding, and uncomfortable with changing clothes in front of strangers, the publicist insisted she attend, warning her of potential legal consequences if she refused. Speaking about male actors, she said:
“I see a lot of men going on saying it was very different a while ago you know the climate was so different and it’s so much better.”
She also reflected on the broader issues within the industry, emphasizing the persistence of such incidents. Kate Beckinsale recounted being assaulted by a trusted crew member at the age of 18.
When she confided in the lead actress about the incident, she was dismissed and told it didn’t happen. Seeking support from another actress, she faced the same denial, even as she tearfully explained the situation.
