No other case information or records, including the Medical Examiner report, can be released or posted on the website until further notice,” the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office shared in a statement. The announcement added, “The Department understands the public’s interest in these cases and remains committed to transparency when possible. Information will be made available once the court order is lifted.”The circumstances surrounding Michele and Rob Reiner's tragic deaths explored:People Magazine has reported that sealing the documents was done to allow detectives toreceive “important information” about Michele and Rob Reiner's deaths “before the media and the public," the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement to NBC 4.According to the outlet, the court orderrestricts “the public release of any investigative information, notes, reports, or photos” to anyone other than the “assigned investigators.”The LAPD confirmed to the outlet that it“sought to seal the records of the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s investigation into Robert and Michele Reiner’s deaths. The causes of death of Mr. and Mrs. Reiner have already been made public. The order was sought only to ensure detectives from Robbery-Homicide Division learned of important information surrounding their deaths before the media and the public. The order was not sought to undermine transparency."Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, 78 and 70 years old, respectively, died of "multiple sharp force injuries" according to the official death certificates obtained by the outlet. Their daughter, Romy, discovered their bodies at their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, on December 14. Their demise was caused "with [a] knife, by another," and the killings occured within "minutes" of each other. The pair's son, Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested shortly after. He has since been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is being detained without bail. He is also facing a sentence enhancement for personal use of a deadly weapon, i.e., a knife. He made an appearance in court on December 17, in shackles and a suicide prevention vest.Nick, who had long been vocal about his struggles with substance abuse, was reportedly being treated for schizophrenia before the murders. His parents also had another son, Jack, though Rob was the adoptive father of Tracy through his first marriage to Penny Marshall. In a statement to People Magazine on December 17, Rob Reiner's kids Jake and Romy said,"Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren't just our parents; they were our best friends."Nick Reiner is reportedly due in court again on January 7 for an arraignment.Stay tuned to SoapCentral for more.
