Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, during a recent appearance on Tilo Jung’s podcast, stormed out of the interview.Larry Sanger resigned as editor-in-chief of Nupedia and chief organizer of Wikipedia in March 2002. Sanger has since been a vocal critic of the platform and has cited many reasons that led to his exit. He has often questioned the credibility of the free encyclopedia. In December 2004, he wrote for the Kuro5hin website, arguing that the platform was not considered credible by librarians, teachers, and academics, as it lacks a formal review process. He also noted that the community was “overrun” by “trolls” and “anarchist-types.” In a 2021 interview with Fox News, Sanger highlighted that because Wikipedia allows anonymous contributions, governments and corporations have a natural incentive to influence information.Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales storms out of interviewDuring an appearance on the Jung & Naiv show, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales was asked to introduce himself. Host Jung said:"We have a new guest. Who are you?"Wales introduced himself as “Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia,” to which Jung responded:"The founder or c0-founder?"Wales responded:"I don't care. That's the dumbest question in the world."Jung then tried to ask Wales about the alleged dispute between him and ex co-founder Larry Sanger, saying:"Really? Because there used to be a dispute...."Wales shut Jung down, saying:"Absolutely. There's no dispute. I don't care. So yeah. Say what you like, it doesn't matter."Jung pressed further:"But isn't that, like, when it comes to Wikipedia, erm...a problem? What are the facts?"Wales argued:"Yeah. Well, it's not a fact, it's an opinion. So you can have whatefver opinion you like, it doesn't matter."The host still pressed on, asking:"But for you, you're the founder?"His question enraged Wales, who responded:"Can I just say again, it doesn't matter? I've answered your question four times. You know what, I'm done. Thank you. Thanks. It's stupid. Don't ask me stupid questions."Wales pulled his chair back and stormed out of the interview, and later addressed viewers, saying:"How is that stupid? It was the first question! All right, we're done here. The shortest interview on Jung & Naiv. Bye."Larry Sanger and Jimmy Wales launched Wikipedia in January 2001. However, in less than a year, Sanger left Wikipedia in mid-2001 and went on to criticize the functioning of the free-for-all online encyclopedia.
