"Why is he lying?" - Internet reacts to Matt Barnes being allegedly extorted by a woman he briefly talked to when he split up with his ex

Matt Barnes has revealed that he was extorted by a woman he was briefly speaking to after he broke up with his ex-girlfriend.

The former Golden State Warriors player took to social media to expose an alleged two-year-long extortion scheme this week. In a video, he claimed that in July 2023, when he and his ex, Anansa Sims, split up for a month, he began speaking with a woman in his DMs.

Over time, he claimed that the conversation turned "spicy," though he never met with her in person. He explained that he ended things with her when he got back with his ex. However, the following year, when he and his ex announced their pregnancy on their reality TV show The Barnes Bunch, he began getting phone calls from different phone numbers threatening to expose him.

He claimed to have no idea why he was being threatened, as he never got intimate with the woman, though he admitted to paying her for over a year to keep her from speaking out. He claims it was because Anansa was pregnant. However, earlier this year, things took a turn when the woman began allegedly using AI to fabricate his voice messages to her.

Matt Barnes has since shared his texts with the woman in question, alongside payment receipts indicating that he had given her a total of $61.2K in the last few years. The last payment was in January.

Fans have since begun reacting to the video with amusement, with many casting doubt on his explanation. Scores online pointed out that no one guilty would have shelled out money. Here's how one user reacted, for instance:

In his video on Instagram, Matt Barnes alleged:

"For the last six to eight months, there's been a lot of bullsh**, particularly posted by Tasha K and some new chick just got into it, Jeese something about messages, text messages, voices, audios and all these sh** and it's a 1000% all bulls**."

The message from his alleged fling read:

"Now you think your about to play with me you low key Did play in my face with the little 5k. I let that go but ok let's play. Happy new year. You told me to not saying anything and I did that looking out for your and your family..... this what you do he'll you don't care about me and my feelings so why should I care. So let's play."

Matt Barnes has reportedly decided to file a lawsuit against the woman.

As for him and Anansa Sims, the pair went viral just this year when the latter took to her social media accounts to accuse Barnes of cheating on her with eight different women in one month alone. The two were engaged since 2022 but parted ways just this year.
