Brazilian singer Preta Gil, who was previously married to social media star Rodrigo Godoy, divorced him after finding out that he was allegedly cheating on her. She passed away at the age of fifty. According to Menafn, the "Só o Amor" singer passed away from the complications of rectal cancer, a condition that she was diagnosed with back in January 2023.

According to Euronews, Preta Gil was undergoing treatment in New York at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where she had been admitted since the advancement of her condition earlier this year in May. Gil, the daughter of famous Brazilian singer Gilberto Gil, was married twice, first to Octávio Müller for one year, from 1994 to 1995. Later, she was married to Rodrigo Godoy.

Preta Gil, born on 8 August 1974, married her second husband, gym trainer and social media personality Rodrigo Godoy, in 2015. The couple were married for eight years, until their separation and eventual divorce in March 2023. According to Ibahia, Preta Gil, who was in the ICU for her cancer treatment, announced that she was going ahead with her divorce from Rodrigo Godoy, with whom she shares a fourteen-year age difference. This was because she had allegedly found out during this time that Rodrigo Godoy was cheating on her with a previous employee who used to work for her.

During her appearance on Angelica: 50 & Tanto, Preta Gil talked about her decision, saying;

"Against everything and everyone, I decided to separate from my husband in an ICU bed... I almost died. I can't let a man come back into my life and continue treating me the way he was treating me."

According to Ibahia, Gil, during her appearance on Mais Você, further explained how there were already problems in her marriage, but the news of her husband's alleged cheating helped her make the decision, even during such a difficult time. She said,

"First of all, when you get married, in church the priest says 'in joy and in sadness, in health and in sickness,' so you don't think that in such a difficult time you will be helpless, that your expectations of care will not be met. So when you find yourself in a situation of such great vulnerability, you start to think 'is this the right time?' I discussed this a lot with the doctors."

Gil further added:

"The marriage already had signs, I was already dissatisfied with some things, and with the diagnosis I felt even more dissatisfied with what we were experiencing as a couple. I thought I didn't need to heal to separate. It's not easy, it was one of the deepest pains I've felt in my life. There was a lot of love, I put a lot of care into it, and this is something we need to rethink."

In 2024, Rodrigo Godoy, currently dating a woman named Rhuana Rodriguez, released a statement on his social media, stating that he had not previously spoken up about his side of the story as he knew the alleged consequences that would ensue. He said:

["Preta] always made it very clear that she would do everything to f*ck my life and she is fulfilling her promise at every opportunity she gets. I've been keeping to myself for a long time, I've never said anything, I've never gone anywhere. I can also open my mouth to talk about others, including a bunch of friends who crucified me, a bunch of people who have glass houses and short memories, a bunch of hypocrites. If I open my mouth to talk about others, a bunch of people's houses will fall down. It's about a lot of things, not just relationships."
