Puka Nacua has issued an apology for his antisemitic behavior. The Los Angeles Rams receiver took to Instagram on Thursday to express remorse for displaying an offensive antisemitism gesture during a recent livestream. “When I appeared the other day on a social media livestream, it was suggested to me to perform a specific movement as part of my next touchdown celebration. I had no idea this act was antisemitic in nature and perpetuated harmful stereotypes against Jewish people,” he said. “I deeply apologize to anyone who was offended by my actions as I do not stand for any form of racism, bigotry or hate of another group of people.” He posted the statement against a blue square, which is the logo for the Blue Square Alliance Against Hate, as reported by the Associated Press. The backlash against Puka Nacua explored as the NFL and Los Angeles Rams issue statements: CBS Sports has reported that the NFL has also since issued a statement that reads as follows: "The NFL strongly condemns all forms of discrimination and derogatory behavior directed towards any group or individual. The continuing rise of antisemitism must be addressed across the world, and the NFL will continue to stand with our partners in this fight. Hatred has no place in our sport or society."For context, during a recent livestream with streamers Adin Ross and N3on, Ross said he wanted to introduce the athlete to a special dance he should do after a touchdown. Puka Nacua mimicked the dance moves, and it didn't take long for the internet to push back. CBS Sports has reported that Puka Nacua's dance clip went viral merely days after 15 people were slain in an attack on the Jewish community in Australia. The incident took place on the first day of Hanukkah. The Rams have also issued a statement to ESPN: "There is no place in this world for Antisemitism as well as other forms of prejudice or hostility towards the Jewish people and people of any religion, ethnicity, or race."United States congressman Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) also weighed in on the incident as he took to X to slam Puka Nacua: "The Los Angeles Jewish community is on edge after the Bondi Beach massacre. And what does this asshole [Puka Nacua] do? He promises an antisemitic touchdown dance for his Thursday night game. He should apologize or be dropped," Swalwell wrote.
