Racquel Chevremont has brought a lawsuit against her ex-fiancee, Mickalene Thomas, to get damages to the tune of 14 million dollars. The case has attracted a lot of attention as both women are popular in the art world. Their professional and personal relationship began in 2012 and ended in 2022, during which, Chevremont alleges that there were some years of unpaid labor, exploitation, and harassment during that time.

According to Chevremont, she significantly contributed to the growth of Thomas as both an artist and business but never received remuneration. She also charges Thomas with stealing money and opportunities that would have been shared between them. The lawsuit has a number of legal allegations, including sexual harassment, retaliation, and breach of contract.

The fact that Chevremont is one of the newly featured housewives in The Real Housewives of New York has brought greater publicity to the story. Her profile in the media has brought renewed attention to the personal and professional backlash between her and Thomas.

According to a report by Artnet News dated August 22, 2025, Racquel Chevremont claims that she was a strategic advisor to Thomas and had to coordinate with galleries, collectors and art institutions. She says that she assisted Thomas in achieving multimillion-dollar deals and growing her name in the art industry. Nevertheless, Chevremont claims that she received little to no wages in the ten years of their relationship.

The lawsuit states that Thomas had stolen business opportunities and money from the projects that were to be shared with their joint company which was to be called Deux Femmes Noire. Racquel Chevremont claims that Mickalene Thomas transferred profits from joint projects into her own business without authorization, though the company was formed to help women and artists of color.

Racquel Chevremont is asking for compensation for unpaid labour, lost profits and emotional distresses. She claims that she was the reason Thomas is successful yet she was treated unfairly and was not properly compensated for her work. She is also suing her for attorney fees and interest on the damages that amounted to 14 million dollars.

The lawsuit also concerns sexual harassment and retaliation as reported by People Magazine on August 25, 2025. She still worked with Thomas professionally after the couple terminated their romantic relationship in 2020. Chevremont accuses Thomas of creating a hostile work environment and urging her to revert to the personal relationship that they perviously had.

Upon refusing such advances, she says that Thomas fired her from her position. Chevremont's lawyers claim that the action was in violation of New York State and City Human Rights Laws. They further allege that Thomas made her reputation suffer, causing professional and emotional harm to Chevremont.

Chevremont tells her that she remained in the alliance since she believed in their collective cause to empower artists of color. But she now claims that there was broken trust and that Thomas has created an impression on her that has made her feel used both at work and in her personal life.
