Sabrina Carpenter ended up crying on the sets of Manchild since she fell on a cactus while filming. During an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, the singer was asked about her six nominations at the upcoming Grammy Awards, since it's the first time she's been nominated for Best Music Video for Manchild. The singer recalled how they filmed the song and added,

"I fell on a cactus. It's so easy to laugh when people get hurt. And I did. But then I started crying. There was a medic. I just for the rest of the day was picking s*** out of..."

Carpenter also added that she's proud of how the music video came out after three days of filming,

"I'll be honest, that shoot was so ambitious. We shot 37 outfits. That was probably my biggest shoot I've ever done. I'm so grateful to be able to make that production of my dreams. But it was definitely...we endured a lot of pain to get the finished product."

The music video was shot on a movie ranch in Santa Clarita, California. The video showcases Carpenter hitchhiking across the American West with various men.

Sabrina Carpenter reveals the inspiration behind writing Manchild

Earlier in June 2025, Sabrina Carpenter took to Instagram to talk about the inspiration behind writing the catchy track, Manchild. Carpenter mentioned that she wrote the track with Amy Allen and Jack Antonoff on a random Tuesday,

"I wrote manchild on a random tuesday with amy and jack not too long after finishing short n' sweet and it ended up being the best random tuesday of my life. not only was it fun to write, but this song became to me something I can look back on that will score the mental montage to the very confusing and fun young adult years of life."

She went on to add,

"It sounds like the song embodiment of a loving eye roll and it feels like a never ending road trip in the summer!"

Manchild debuted at No.1 on Billboard's Hot 100 and was Sabrina Carpenter's second No.1 and first to debut atop the chart. The track won nominations for Video of the Year, Best Pop of the Year, Best Direction, Best Editing, and Song of the Summer at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards. The song won Best Visual Effects.

It has also won four nominations at the upcoming 2026 Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Music Video.
