Savannah Chrisley has opened up about the emotional moment she and her brother Grayson broke down after Donald Trump won the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election. The Chrisley family recently appeared on My View with Lara Trump for their first television interview since Todd and Julie Chrisley were released from prison.

The couple, previously convicted on multiple fraud charges, received full pardons from President Trump in May 2025. During the Fox News interview, Savannah, Todd, Julie, and Grayson discussed their experiences, including the role Savannah played in their legal battle.

Savannah also spoke about the deep relief and hope she felt after the election. Adding that, she and her brother sobbed as, for them, Trump’s victory felt like the only path forward for their parents’ freedom.

What did Savannah Chrisley say about her reaction to Trump’s win?

Savannah Chrisley said the moment she realized Donald Trump had won the election was a turning point for her. She had been active in advocating for her parents and believed that a Trump win could lead to real action.

“Grayson and I watched the election together, and he got to vote in the election for the first time,” Savannah told Lara Trump.

She further added:

“And when we were watching it and we saw the president win, we both started sobbing. And he just grabbed me and hugged me because we knew that was our only way out.”

Savannah explained that the tears came from a sense of relief. They believed that with Trump back in office, a pardon was more likely.

How did Todd and Julie find out about their pardons?

Todd and Julie Chrisley were both in prison when they found out they were going to be released. Their sentences had already been reduced in 2023, but they were not expecting full pardons.

Todd remembered the exact moment the news came:

“I had a staff member that came to me and said, ‘You’ve just been pardoned.’ And I just looked at him, and he says, ‘No, really, you’ve been pardoned. It’s in the news.’”

He said he felt numb after hearing the news. He immediately called Savannah to confirm what he had just been told.

Julie also talked about the moment she learnt that they were pardoned:

“I called Savannah one more time, and she said, ‘He did it, he signed it.’ And I just started busting out crying. And everyone was looking around, and then I just hung up. I was so nervous, I just hung up.”

The couple credited Savannah Chrisley for being the driving force behind their release. When asked if they would have been free without her, Julie said, “Absolutely not.”

Savannah Chrisley's conversation with President Trump before the pardon

Savannah told Lara Trump about a conversation she had with President Trump just before the pardons were announced.

“He was like, ‘How are you?’ I was like, well, in the wise words of you, fighting like hell,” Savannah recalled.
“A big thing was he asked Alice Johnson, ‘Is this a commutation? Or is this a full pardon?’ And she said, ‘As of now, it’s just a commutation.’ He goes, ‘Nope. Nope. We’re going to give them a full pardon. These people get their lives back.’”

Savannah Chrisley has since been named a Senior Fellow for the Nolan Center for Criminal Justice at CPAC. She said she is proud of the work she has done, not just for her parents but for others who may be facing similar struggles.

Her parents are now out of prison and planning to return to the media space. They will appear on ABC News Studios’ IMPACT x Nightline: The Chrisleys: Life After Lockup and are relaunching their podcast Chrisley Confessions under PodcastOne.
