2006 was a difficult year for Crow. The heartbreak related to the split was followed by further bad news when the singer-songwriter was diagnosed with breast cancer. However, as per Crow’s interview with Variety, this difficult period of her life played an influential role in the way Crow decided to lead the rest of her life. Sheryl Crow candidly shared with Variety,

“I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006… I think having come out of a relationship where I thought I was gonna be married and was close to the kids that were gonna be my stepkids, then got diagnosed — all three of those things made me reassess. I just looked at it and thought, ‘I want to put down roots; I want to have a family.’”

Sheryl Crow's life after cancer, explored

After her cancer treatment was successful, Sheryl Crow remained true to the epiphanies she’d had while she was battling cancer and dealing with her split from Armstrong.

As per a report by NBC, Crow increasingly prioritized the idea of starting a family, rather than waiting for the right moment and finding a suitable partner. Crow shared with the Redbook Magazine,

“I felt an acute sense of urgency about how I wanted my life to feel. Since I wasn't married, my idea of what the picture was supposed to look like no longer served any great purpose. So I started the process of doing an adoption ‘home study,’ which means you fill out paperwork, get certified in infant CPR. The idea was, if the opportunity came, I would be ready.”

In 2007, Crow adopted a newborn baby boy. She followed it up with another successful adoption in 2010. That year, she adopted yet another newly born baby boy.

Crow has raised her two sons as a single mother. She presently lives in Nashville, where she relocated from Los Angeles after her cancer diagnosis.

During her conversation with Variety, Crow further shared that her sisters stay close to Nashville, a fact which influenced her relocation to the city.

Apart from raising her kids, Crow remains active as a responsible citizen. She shared with Variety that not a day has passed and she has not spoken to her district’s congress representatives.
