American producer, Tish Cyrus, known for managing her two daughters, Noah and Miley Cyrus, parted ways with her erstwhile husband Billy Ray Cyrus in 2022 after almost 28 years of marriage. According to a February 2024 report in The Standard, Tish admitted her relationship with Billy Ray should have ended years ago, as there was a lot of disrespect in the marriage for the both of them.

The end of Tish and Billy Ray Cyrus’s decades-long marriage came after years of tumult. The couple’s first major split happened in 2010, when Billy Ray filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. By March 2011, however, he dropped the case and the two reconciled.

Two years later, in 2013, it was Tish who filed for divorce. That, too, ended in a reunion.

However, in April 2022, she filed again — this time for good. Court documents confirmed the pair had been living separately for at least two years prior.

The pandemic appeared to be a turning point. Tish later revealed that during COVID-19 lockdowns, she remained in California with daughter Miley Cyrus, while Billy Ray stayed in Tennessee. The physical separation reflected a deeper emotional distance that had been growing for some time.

Tish Cyrus reflects on divorce from Billy Ray

In a report shared by People, Tish said that she had tried her best to make her relationship with Billy Ray work.

“I never wanted to be divorced, [But] for us, you’re in the public eye and the world that we exist in is already so odd and at sometimes unstable. I wanted to make it work, probably for a little too long, like, for my own mental health. There became a point that, like, I didn’t have a choice,” she shared.

Reflecting on her divorce from Billy Ray , Tish Cyrus admitted the separation was “tough on everyone” in the family including their children.

“My son Trace, for example… He was bummed. He was like, ‘I wish my mom and dad would never get… I wish that wouldn’t have happened,’” she shared.

She added:

“I was an only child and had the best upbringing and best parents and never went through anything like that. So I don’t really know how it affects you, but… it was definitely something that was probably hard on them, no matter how you do it.”

Tish Cyrus told people that leaving Billy Ray was a decision that left her “terrified,” She feared that love might not come her way again.

“I thought I was going to be alone forever, and that was one of the times that I had the crippling breakdown of anxiety. I joke about it and say I had a complete psychological breakdown. There were 30 days where I was not eating, sleeping, just felt like I was just coming out of my skin. And it was really scary.” she shared.

Lately, Billy Ray Cyrus, the multi-platinum selling artist, revealed that he has been meditating on what matters the most to him in life. As the world celebrated Mother’s Day on May 11, the singer shared praise on Instagram for ex-wife Tish, saying she has been a “strong” mother to his children.

"Tish Cyrus was and is the very definition of a strong mother. Trust me, I'm the first to admit... being married to me was not easy. I'm very good at making mistakes. A very imperfect man. But thank goodness… somewhere along the line my Mama also taught me, ‘life is a series of adjustments.’ ...Being honest here. Since I was a kid... I had to learn that lesson the hard way. Funny how history repeats itself. Full circle," shared Billy Ray Cyrus.
