Jon M. Chu reveals why they won't reveal Dorothy's face in Wicked: For Good

Jon M. Chu recently spoke to People magazine about not showing Dorothy's face in Wicked: For Good. He said,

“I didn’t want to step on who you think Dorothy is in whatever story that you came into this with. [It] is still Elphaba and Glinda’s journey, and she is a pawn in the middle of all of it.”

The stage musical, on which the film is based, features Dorothy's shadows. The character also had a short appearance in the initial scenes of Wicked.

In the same interview, Chu revealed that the character of Madame Morrible will have an "incredible moment."

"[She is with] an iconic moment we all know from our youth” [which was] “not in the” [musical]. We have this amazing moment of the tornado and how it gets conjured."

The film is produced by Marc Platt and David Stone for Marc Platt Productions. Its cast members include,

  • Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba Thropp
  • Bronwyn James as ShenShen
  • Ariana Grande as Glinda Upland, aka The Good Witch of the North
  • Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero Tigelaar
  • Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible
  • Jeff Goldblum as the Wonderful Wizard of Oz
  • Marissa Bode as Nessarose Thropp
  • Bowen Yang as Pfannee
  • Ethan Slater as Boq Woodsman
  • Peter Dinklage as Doctor Dillamond's voice
  • Sharon D. Clarke as the voice of Dulcibear
  • Colman Domingo as Brrr, the Cowardly Lion's voice

The sequel is an adaptation of the second act of the 2003 stage musical of the same name, which was based on a 1995 book.
