The sequel is produced by Sorkin, Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Stuart M. Besser.
Recently, comedian-actor Bill Burr's name has been doing the rounds, as it's being speculated that he has also joined the film's cast. Let us find out all the details about this latest update on the forthcoming film.
Bill Burr is in talks to join the cast of The Social Network Part II
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Bill Burr is likely to join the cast of The Social Network Part II. The film is written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, while Sony Pictures is handling the distribution. It's based on Jeff Horwitz's series of articles called The Facebook Files, which were published in The Wall Street Journal.
The makers have announced the names of several cast members so far, including:
- Jeremy Strong as Mark Zuckerberg
- Mikey Madison as Frances Haugen
- Jeremy Allen White as Jeff Horwitz
Unlike the above-mentioned actors who are playing real-life people, Burr is said to be playing a fictional character. The production of The Social Network Part II is scheduled to begin in the latter part of 2025 in Vancouver, Canada.
The sequel will chronicle how Facebook (now called Meta) conducted research that revealed the negative impact of social media on kids. It also pointed out that the spread of misinformation through the platform contributed to the Capitol attack in January 2021.
The first film, The Social Network, was an adaptation of Ben Mezrich's book The Accidental Billionaires. It chronicled how Facebook was founded by a bunch of people, including Zuckerberg. Written by Sorkin and directed by David Fincher, the film was produced by Scott Rudin, Dana Brunetti, Michael De Luca, and Cean Chaffin.
It was released on October 1, 2010, and ended up grossing $224.9 million. The film also received eight Oscar nominations and took home awards for Best Film Editing, Best Original Score, and Best Adapted Screenplay. At the 68th Golden Globe Awards, it was awarded for Best Screenplay, Best Director, Best Original Score, and Best Motion Picture – Drama.
The makers have yet to reveal the theatrical release date of the sequel.
