James Gunn recently spoke to PelucheEn ElEstuche where he was asked if his Guardians of the Galaxy actor Chris Pratt can appear as Batman in the DC Universe. In response, Gunn said:

"As Batman? No. As something else? Yes."

His comment makes it clear that Pratt won't be featured as the Dark Knight in the DCU. But as Gunn said, the actor might appear in another role given their history of collaboration. Gunn had directed Pratt in the three Guardians of the Galaxy films before he joined the DC studio in 2022.

Currently, Robert Pattinson is portraying Batman and is expected to return in the sequel to 2022's The Batman. The sequel is titled The Batman: Part II and is expected to release theatrically on October 1, 2027.

Gunn spoke to Rainn Wilson for Interview Magazine and spoke about the DC Universe.

"[My vision] is a lot more to me what the Game of Thrones world is like or what Star Wars is like, because we’re building a universe and then picking out little pieces of it and telling individual stories from that universe."

He added,

"There is not a New York City in our DCU. There is not a Los Angeles in our DCU. There is Metropolis, Evergreen, and Coast City. It’s a different map. It’s a world in which some form of superheroes, which we call Metahumans, have existed for at least 300 years and they’ve been a part of our life. But I think that we’re reaching a point in the DCU where there’s three factions. There’s the Metahumans, the governments, and then the corporations."
