Dave Franco has revealed that he is open to playing Luigi Mangione in a possible biopic. Luigi Mangione was charged with the December 2024 assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. During an August 4 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, a fan called in and asked Dave,
"Since the entire internet want(s) you to play Luigi Mangione in a movie...would you want to play him in a biopic if it was offered to you?"
Dave responded,
"Oh, how do I answer this. No one has approached me about it yet, I'll say that. This is something that more people in my life reached out about this exact thing than anything else has ever happened."
He went on to say that he's "open" to the idea,
"Let's just say I'm open, if the right people (are involved), and let's leave it at that."
Dave Franco reveals he has not received any "official offers" to play Luigi Mangione
His recent appearance on Andy Cohen's podcast is not the first time Dave Franco has been questioned about potentially taking on the role of Luigi Mangione. In January 2025, Dave told The Hollywood Reporter at the Sundance Film Festival that he is aware of the resemblance he shares with the alleged UnitedHealthcare CEO shooter.
When Franco was asked if anyone he knew had reached out about his resemblance to Mangione, Dave's wife, Alison Brie, responded, "Anyone? Do you mean everyone?", and Dave said,
"I have never received more texts in my life about anything. Anyone who has my phone number has reached out about it."
Brie then went on to clarify that there haven't been any "official offers" for Franco to take on the role.
The internet users are not the only ones who have noticed a significant resemblance between Franco and Mangione. In a December episode of Saturday Night Live, Sarah Sherman, who appeared as Nancy Grace, explained how Mangione had "women and gay guys alike all hot and bothered." She then went on to joke that Mangione "looks like Dave Franco with Eugene Levy eyebrows."
Luigi Mangione was arrested in Altoona, Pa, on December 9, days after Brian Thompson was shot on December 4 outside a New York City hotel. The computer science major pleaded not guilty and was extradited to New York. He was arraigned at Manhattan Criminal Court on December 23 in New York City.
He faced multiple charges, including first‑degree murder, terrorism-related counts, weapons possession, stalking, and forgery.
