Kimmy "MrBeast" Donaldson has revealed that he's resorting to borrowing money for his own forthcoming wedding.
In a tweet that came out on June 2, the prolific YouTuber revealed that he doesn't have a lot of money because he reinvests as much as he can, adding that "ironically," he has to borrow some bucks from his mother for his own wedding.
"I personally have very little money because I reinvest everything (I think this year we'll spend around a quarter of a billion on content). Ironically i'm actually borrowing $ from my mom to pay for my upcoming wedding lol," he penned. "But sure, on paper the businesses I own are worth a lot."
Fans have since begun questioning him, with many noting that he has far more wealth than a good chunk of the population and should choose his words carefully. Here's how one critic reacted, for instance:
"when you're spending 250 mil on content, borrowing for your own wedding is crazy. write yourself a check?"
Scores online are lamenting the YouTuber's comments:
"So keep more liquid cash so you don’t have to borrow money," one user advised.
"is there a gofund me where I can donate?" another sarcastic user chimed in.
"How the hell would you not think to have at least a couple million in in your bank account just in case," someone else pointed out.
"Bro made it on the Forbes list and is taking family loans, kinda disgraceful imo," a fourth user noted.
Here's how the rest of X is reacting:
"Ah so the old " i buy using my business" method the rich get so you don't pay taxes," one snarky user penned.
"Maybe he should spend less on content, and save some of that money. Gravy train will only ride for so long," another chimed in.
"Rich people say this for cheap pity. he can get money easily for the wedding by going to the bank and they’ll lend him money for wedding. Just because it’s not liquid doesn’t mean it’s not accessible or he’s powerless. He’s quite literally, the opposite," someone else added.
"Considering he bought his parents house and basically finances their entire life now I don't see how that's a problem. In fact, it doesn't seem to be anyone else's business at all," yet another user joined the discourse.
Sentiments online visibly pointed to that of unappreciation.
Everything we know about MrBeast's financial status and his relationship with Thea Booysen:
Dexerto has reported that MrBeast's net worth is purportedly around $5 billion. He is known for hosting his Beast Games series on Amazon Prime. He is known for his philanthropic nature on his YouTube channel, which boasts 400 million subscribers, thereby making him the highest-subscribed to star.
The 27-year-old, who got engaged to fellow YouTuber Thea Booysen back in Christmas of 2024, revealed earlier this year that his company, Beast Industries, spends about a quarter of a billion dollars on content alone. As reported by Business Insider, last year, MrBeast's company generated about $500 million in total. By consistently reinvesting these funds, he stands to grow his business.
As for his forthcoming wedding, back in January, MrBeast's girlfriend spoke to People Magazine in an exclusive interview, where she recalled how her partner popped the big question:
"My family flew out from South Africa for Christmas and we were going to do Christmas in our house so both families were here. We were opening presents, and then for the very last present he asked me to close my eyes because it was a surprise," Booysen said at the time.
MrBeast chimed in,
"I intentionally dropped a large box to make noise before presenting the real gift — with the ring inside — to her. And then I went down on a knee and proposed."
When Booysen opened her eyes, she "of course said yes" and was "extremely excited."
"I was trying to think of the best way to catch her off guard so it would be a surprise," Mr Beast added. "Thea is really close to her family, so I wanted to make sure that they were included in this momentous occasion. Christmas worked out great because they were in town from the other side of the world."
MrBeast and his bride-to-be met back in 2022, when MrBeast was visiting the gamer cum internet personality's native of South Africa. At the time, he had gone for a dinner with a mutual friend, who also invited Booysen to join them, People Magazine has reported.
