More details about the Highlander reboot
Fans are buzzing as the Highlander reboot finally moves from legend to production. After years of cast changes, rumors and false starts, the 1986 cult classic's story of immortal warriors is getting a fresh reboot under Amazon MGM Studios. Principal photography is set to start in October this year as the film promises a blend of high-octane action and deep mythology, with Connor MacLeod at the center.
Henry Cavill is playing MacLeod, taking over the role from Christopher Lambert. Cavill has teased intense details about his role, from his sword skills to his love for the original film. In 2024, the actor talked to The Hollywood Reporter about his role and said,
"I am a lover of the original movies, for better or worse. It's one of those things where reading the script, I wasn't quite sure where they were going to go. If you think you've seen me do sword work before, you haven't seen anything yet."
Joining Cavill in the cast are David Bautista as Kurgan, Russell Crowe in a key undisclosed role and Drew McIntyre as Angus. More details about the cast are awaited for now.
The film is being helmed by Chad Stahelski, who has previously worked on the John Wick series, making him an expert in action and thrilling narratives. In an interview with The Direct, the director talked about he pitched the film to Cavill as he said,
"My selling point was, to [Henry Cavill], 'Look, you've got a guy that's been alive for over 500 years. He's the last person in the world that wanted to be in this situation.' So you get to cover quite a broad spread of a character arc there. And you get to experience someone that's trained over 500 years and sort of played [with many types of] martial arts."
Apart from that, Stahelski has confirmed that the film will absolutely incorporate some bits of the original film's Queen soundtrack, Progress on the film has been going steady for now, although more details about it's release date and plot are still awaited.
