"Yeah, we're in-laws" - Eddie Murphy reveals his son is officially married to Martin Lawrence’s daughter

Coming to America star Eddie Murphy and National Security lead Martin Lawrence are no longer just friends but are in-laws. Murphy's son, Eric, and Lawrence's daughter, Jasmin, have been dating since 2021. The news of their engagement came in November 2024. Eddie Murphy, one of the most successful actors in Hollywood, rose to fame after starring as the lead in Martin Brest's 1984 classic action comedy Beverly Hills Cop.

Eddie Murphy, who is currently married to Australian actress Paige Butcher, with whom he shares two kids (who are his youngest children), was previously married to producer and actress Nicole Mitchell. They were married from 1993 to 2006. According to Parade, Murphy shares five children with Mitchell and had one kid each from his earlier relationships with Tamara Hood, Paulette McNeely, and singer Melanie Brown, commonly known as Mel B.

As per Parade, Murphy's first child was Eric, whom he shares with McNeely. 64-year-old Eddie Murphy, who recently appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show, surprised his fans and the netizens by revealing that his son, Eric, and Martin Lawrence's daughter, Jasmin, are now married. The Nutty Professor actor said:

"Actually, they got married, like, two weeks ago. They went off.... Everybody was making the big wedding plans, and they decided they wanted to do something quiet with just the two of them."

Eddie, who has previously worked with the 60-year-old Martin Lawrence in Ted Demme's comedy-thriller Life and Reginald Hudlin's romantic comedy Boomerang, said:

"Yeah, we're in-laws. And he doesn't have to pay for that big wedding now."

Bad Boys star Martin Lawrence, who has three daughters, shares Jasmin with his first wife, Patricia Southall, and his two other daughters, Iyana and Amara, with his second wife, Shamicka Gibbs. Interestingly, Lawrence was supposed to pay for Eric and Jasmin's big wedding, as Murphy had asked him to. During one of the episodes of iHeart Radio's Big Boy's Neighborhood in December 2024, Lawrence said:

"Well, Eddie said I gotta pay for it. He said I gotta pay for it, 'cause he paid for his last daughter's wedding — like the last six weddings — but he said it's my turn now."

It was not Eddie Murphy or Martin Lawrence who introduced Eric and Jasmin, but surprisingly, it was Jasmin's uncle who introduced them to one another. In an interview with In Touch, the 28-year-old Jasmin said:

"It wasn’t even our dads – and they’ve done two movies together. They’re friends. I don’t even know. It’s crazy. But we met through my uncle, and we became really good friends. We bonded on a lot of things. Obviously, we have similar backgrounds, so we understood each other on a certain level."
