Marlon Wayans has opened up about his instincts to "accept and love" his transgender son, Kai.
During a recent appearance on the latest episode of the We In Miami podcast, the HIM star was asked if he sees himself as the "spokesperson" for the fathers of trans children. He refuted this claim, though he did say he had a "natural instinct" to protect his son, 25. The comedian shares Kai with his former partner, Angela Zackery.
"People can judge and say what they want but at the end of the day that's my child," the entertainer said. "And I'm gonna love my baby regardless of what anybody says and they should be allowed to have their anonymity and enjoy their life exactly the way they want to enjoy it. You can’t beat gay out of someone. You can’t hypnotize someone to not be transgender. You gotta accept and love them," he continued.
Marlon Wayans on his trans son, beefing with 50 Cent, and more:
Complex has reported that Marlon Wayans revealed back in 2023 that Kai had transitioned. During an episode of The Breakfast Club, he admitted to taking time to come to terms with the change:
"My daughter Amai is now Kai, and so, I talk about the transition. Not her, his… their transition, but my transition as a parent, going from ignorance and denial to complete unconditional love and acceptance," Wayans said.
During his recent We In Miami podcast, Marlon Wayans was also asked about what he thinks a parent should do:
“You’re supposed to align yourself with your children because you want your children ultimately to be happy,” he said. “Black family is important and whatever you have to do to keep your beautiful Black odd family together that’s what you do.”
In other news, the comedian also made headlines last month when he appeared as a guest on The Cruz Show podcast and was asked to weigh in on Sean Combs: The Reckoning, which is executive-produced by 50 Cent.
At the time, Marlon Wayans slammed the Netflix production, noting that any filmmaker can “create any narrative.” He also accused the rapper of “kicking a man when he’s down,” claiming that Diddy is already facing the consequences of his actions.
"I was just like, ‘I don’t think brothers need to be quarreling in public like that’ and then what did I get into? A public quarrel with a brother and I just think it was bad for the culture and so I kind of backed out. I think, because I always wanna focus on, you know, positivity, fun, and I got a movie coming out, Scary Movie 6.”
He joked,
“So I don’t even say that name anymore. If you ask me, ‘Hey, you got change for a dollar? I need a half a dollar! So you need a half a dollar. You’re talking about five dimes, two quarters. I’ll say two quarters. How old are you? I’m forty-three plus a dime! I will no longer say it. It rhymes with gifty.”
The rapper has since responded to Marlon Wayans' comments with a post on social media that read:
“I’m glad he didn’t make me have to act like I don’t want to see Scary Movie 6. We good.”
