It's been four years since Margot Robbie last stepped into the DCU grounds as Harley Quinn, and fans have kept wondering if the actress will return to reprise her character, now that James Gunn has taken hold of DC. After taking a long break following the success of Barbie, Robbie is now back for a collaboration with Colin Farrell on Big Bold Beautiful Journey, and the actress made sure to open up about her plans of returning to the DCU again.
Speaking to Variety in an interview, the actress said that she has heard nothing about the character's revival, and that any plans for another film starring Harley Quinn depend on James Gunn. She then went on to express her love for the character as she said,
"You can’t get sick of Harley. I love her so deeply. I always had high hopes for her like Batman. A character that loves on long after I’ve had a go at it.”
Robbie then added that while her love for the character runs deep, she would also love to see other actors play the role in any future iterations, as she continued,
“I feel like I need to share Harley,”
What is Margot Robbie starring in next?
Margot Robbie's next acting venture after the long break following the success of Barbie is Kogonada's A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, opposite Colin Farrell. The film is a romantic fantasy project written by Seth Reiss. It follows two strangers, Sarah and David, whose lives crash together, sparking an unimaginable adventure that blurs reality and destiny. After meeting at a car rental from a mysterious agency, a talking GPS leads them to multiple doorways that open to different moments from their past years and lives.
Talking about the film, Margot Robbie tells Variety,
“Even though it’s got a lot of darker things, it was a very light film. Everything felt very light. It’s magical, it’s beautiful, and it’s romantic, and it does deal with real-life things, [but] it felt like we were in a golden bubble every day, and I was dreading it ending. That was the only negative thing — I was scared of it ending.”
Farrell then adds,
“It deals with grief and loss and sorrow and loneliness and all these very human things that we all contend with, but I’ve never used the word darkness in relation to this film. No. There’s no darkness in it. Those things in and of themselves aren’t dark. They may be painful, but they’re not dark experiences."
Joining Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell are Kevin Kline, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Billy Magnussen, Sarah Gadon, Brandon Perea, and Hamish Linklater.
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey will be in theaters on September 19, 2025.
