Everything we know about Kathryn Bigelow's upcoming project as Idris Elba says he's enthusiastic about AI:
Deadline has reported that A House of Dynamite will be Kathryn Bigelow's first feature since she released Detroit in 2017. The film was written by Noah Oppenheim, and it centers around an unexpected nuclear missile launch against the USA.
The film, produced by Greg Shapiro, Kathryn Bigelow, and Oppenheim, sees its highest-ranking civilian and military officials rally to find the culprit and determine how best to respond. Idris Elba reportedly plays the U.S. President tasked with handling the attack.
Bigelow's project, executive produced by Brian Bell and Sarah Bremner and co-produced by Jeremy Hindle, Sumaiya Kaveh, and Luca Borghese, made its debut at the Venice Film Festival this year, though it will hit the big screens in the UK on October 3. A week later, it will roll out across the world before it debuts on Netflix on October 24.
As for Elba, he made headlines just this week when he spoke with Semafor Media Editor Max Tani about the future of AI.
He said he's enthusiastic about “the opportunities for underdeveloped communities to catch up with the rest of the world because AI can help them do that. That’s exciting to me. That’s progress.”
The actor cum DJ further told the outlet:
“When the synthesizer was created and it had drum kits on it, it didn’t stop drummers becoming drummers. It’s just a different tool set. We went from pin cameras to digital cameras — hasn’t changed photography in any way. A picture is a picture.” He added, “AI isn’t going to come up with solutions that human beings can’t think of,” but it can be useful in “helping people help each other better.”
He also expressed hope for building more studios in Africa, allowing for better film and TV production there. However, he admitted that it would be a “slow process.”
“When you say you’re building studios, people want to see shiny buildings very quickly. But for me, there’s a lot of foundational work” that needs to happen first.
