Zac Efron is set to star alongside Will Ferrell in a new comedy film that Amazon's MGM Studios will distribute. The film will be penned and directed by Nicholas Stoller, the creative genius behind Ferrell's You're Cordially Invited. The film follows Efron as he comes out of jail due to a reality TV courtroom conviction. He blames Ferrell's character as the judge for wrongfully accusing him and ruining his life.
Not much has been revealed about the film yet, nor does it have a title as of now. The film will be produced by Gloria Sanchez Productions, Jessica Elbaum, and Alex Brown.
Ferrell recently starred in Stoller's You're Cordially Invited. Starring opposite Reese Witherspoon, Ferrell's performance in the film has received positive reviews.
As for Efron, he has just finished Jody Hill's Famous, a thriller set in Los Angeles that will delve into celebrities and their complex lives. Efron has a double role in the film, portraying superstar James Jansen and his superfan Lance Dunkquist. The project is an adaptation based on Blake Crouch's novel of the same name. The film is being adapted by Chad Hodge, who has previously been behind the film adaptations of Crouch's Wayward Pines trilogy.
What is You're Cordially Invited about?
You're Cordially Invited is a messy affair of events surrounding two weddings taking place on the same day, in the same place. Led by Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell, with one wedding being of the former's sister and the second wedding being the latter's daughter's, the film is chaotic, laugh-out-loud funny, mixed with the usual rom-com elements of familial conflicts, and light-hearted humor.
The plot synopsis of the film reads:
A woman planning her sister's ideal wedding and the father of a bride-to-be discover their destination weddings at a remote resort are double-booked. When both parties decide to share the small venue, chaos ensues and disaster awaits.
Ferrell and Witherspoon eventually become romantic interests in the film, with a good old happy ending that brings both families closer to each other.
Ferrell's new project will be his second collaboration with Nicholas Stoller.
