Zoey Deutch is making her big screen return with the upcoming comedy-drama film, Nouvelle Vague, that will take us back to the French New Wave period in the late '50s. The movie will put the spotlight on visionary filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard, with Guillaume Marbeck taking up the role.
Richard Linklater is at the helm of the project, which is now gearing up for a late October premiere in the United States. Michèle Pétin will produce Nouvelle Vague alongside Laurent Pétin, with screenwriters Holy Gent, Vincent Palmo, Michèle Halberstadt, and Laetitia Masson joining on board.
The official synopsis of Nouvelle Vague, per IMDb, reads:
"After writing for Cahiers du cinéma, young Godard decides making films is the best film criticism. He gets Beauregard to fund a low-budget feature, creating a treatment with Truffaut about a gangster couple."
When will Nouvelle Vague be released?
Nouvelle Vague is gearing up for its United States premiere on October 31. Earlier this year, the comedy drama had its global premiere at the Cannes Film Festival while running the Palme d'Or contest. It thereby bagged a solid 89% Rotten Tomatoes score in terms of critic reviews, and on October 8, it premiered in French theatres. Currently, Netflix is holding the Nouvelle Vague's distribution rights in the United States.
What do we know about the plot of Nouvelle Vague?
Iconic French director and screenwriter Jean-Luc Godard’s story will be revisited in Richard Linklater's upcoming drama film Nouvelle Vague. The plot revolves around Godard, who revolutionized filmmaking during the French New Wave with his masterpiece creation Breathless, a 1960 crime drama.
According to Netflix's Tudum, Nouvelle Vague will also revisit Godard's experimental and unconventional approach while creating art. It is about how the making of Breathless shaped a new era, showing a brand new path to filmmakers of the upcoming generations.
Not only will we get an unfiltered glimpse of the French New Wave in Linklater's upcoming ode to the legendary Jean-Luc Godard, but also understand the latter's take on why making a film is the best way to become a critic. Nouvelle Vague is a story about how creative entropy increases (for the good) with new ideas, novel approach, fresh talent, and electric presence; not to mention how it ends up being a masterpiece.
