Colin Farrell is about to break some rules and, well, bones, in an upcoming film called Ordained. Some sources have confirmed to Deadline that he will play a priest, Father Roy Craig, in the movie. He will work with the Russo Brothers' home banner AGBO, which is also co-producing the upcoming Avengers films.

The film is based on a comic book of the same name by the publisher, Bad Idea. Robert Vendetti (Planet Death), Trevor Hairsine (X-Men), DC Hopkins (Batman), and Dave Stewart (Star Wars, Hellboy) have worked on it.

As of this moment, no other actor is confirmed to be attached to the project. As for the script, Derek Kolstad is set to write it. Known for his work on franchises including John Wick and Nobody.

The latest projects of the Russo Brothers and Colin Farrell haven't been really successful. The Electric State, reportedly Netflix's most expensive movie by the Russo Brothers, is said to have lost a big chunk of money. For Farrell, The Big Bold Beautiful Journey, did not veer even close to anything that its title suggests.

That said, Ordained reignites hope for the Russos as well as Colin Farrell, who are known for some great works in their own right, including Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Russos), In Bruges (Farrell), and more.

What is Ordained about?

The plot of the film has not been released yet, but the comic book can provide a solid direction into where the film might be headed.

Father Roy Craig, as we have already mentioned, is at the center of the story. However, the title of "Father" was a later development of his life, in Ordained. Now, he simply does his duties for God, including performing last rites for the dying, particularly.

But the past doesn't really leave him, as one day, he has to perform last rites for an Irish mob boss, who (just like Craig), has also turned to God in the final moments of his life. GOD! So, Father Roy meets him, listens to all his confessions, and absolves the mob boss of all his sins.

Everything is fine, and the dying man sure might be feeling light, like when Frank T.J. Mackey's father in Magnolia (1999) does on his deathbed. However, why should humans have all the fun? Let God have some, too. He takes away the mob boss' illness just like Lucifer does to John Constantine in Constantine (2005).

Now, as you can already imagine, this is going to be the primary issue at the center of Ordained. A priest is now privy to all the bad deeds of this mob boss. All his secrets are out, and he initially chose to confess because he knew it wouldn't matter after death.

Now, as Budd, or as we know him as the Sidewinder, from the Kill Bill films, would say, "that man deserves to die." So, the priest must die. But wait, Father Roy has a past that might become a problem for the mob boss if he comes after him, which he will!
