Hailee Steinfeld is officially joining Miles Teller in Winter Games, an upcoming romantic comedy film from Paramount Pictures. The story follows two Olympic athletes vying for the gold medal.
Paul Downs Colaizzo is directing the film from a script he co-wrote with Patrick Cunnane. Colaizzo has previously worked on a similar sport-themed comedy, Brittany Runs a Marathon, with Jillian Bell as the lead. His latest will raise the stakes by putting its two leads in the Olympic Games, fighting for love and more.
Per Deadline, the plot synopsis reads:
"The film revolves around the high-stakes arena of the Winter Olympic Games, a perpetually overlooked skier and a self-sabotaging hockey legend who collide at their breaking points. Their unexpected connection threatens her chance for a medal and his shot at a comeback as they navigate romance and redemption in the Olympic Village."
Steinfeld’s skier and Teller’s hockey legend will battle for recognition and redemption. Winter Games will be produced by Tim and Trevor White from Star Thrower, who will work alongside Teller.
Hailee Steinfeld will play a lover in a battle in Paramount's Winter Games
Winter Games sees Hailee Steinfeld’s in another romantic lead, following her performance in Ryan Coogler’s Sinners. Coogler’s vampire horror film has been one of the highlights of 2025, earning over $365 million globally and $278 million domestically. The film's success is especially significant for an original, non-franchise project, which is a non-IP project.
With these figures, it has become one of the top-earning films of 2025. It is one of the highest-grossing original projects in over a decade. Despite being a horror film, it has made history, securing the fifth position in the highest-grossing films in the genre. It was also a major critical success with a solid 97% Rotten Tomatoes score, pushing it further in the end-of-the-year award race.
With Sinners, Steinfeld role has positioned her as a strong contender this awards season, along with the talented cast and crew behind the film, including her co-star Michael B. Jordan. This isn’t the first time she has been in contention for Oscars. In 2011, she received an Academy Award nomination for her supporting turn in the Coen brothers’ True Grit.
Beyond these critically acclaimed roles, Steinfeld has also starred in major mainstream projects. These include the MCU’s Hawkeye series or Bumblebee (2019) from the Transformers franchise. More recently, she voiced Gwen Stacy in Sony’s animated Spider-Verse superhero film series. She is expected to reprise this role in the franchise’s upcoming project, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
The Winter Games star Miles Teller has more exciting projects in the pipeline

Before Winter Games, Miles Teller starred in another romantic drama where he had to choose between his love and his ideals. In The Gorge from Apple Studios, Teller played a lover in battle alongside Furiosa star Anya Taylor-Joy. Before that, he played Lt. Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw in the Top Gun: Maverick sequel, directed by F1 director Joseph Kosinski.
Reports suggest that Teller has recently wrapped on A24’s Eternity, marking another collaboration with writer Patrick Cunnane and producers Tim and Trevor White. Teller is also slated to play real-life cyclist and legend Gino Bartali in Bartali. More updates on Winter Games and the stars’ other projects are expected in the near future.
