Playdate is a film in the action-comedy genre that premiered on Amazon Prime Video on November 12, 2025. Directed by Luke Greenfield, the film is written by Neil Goldman. Greenfield, Jason Benoit, Mark Fasano, Jeffrey Greenstein, and Sean O'Reilly are the producers. Here's the official synopsis as per Letterboxd:
When out of work, accountant Brian joins stay-at-home dad Jeff for a playdate with their sons; he expects a laid-back afternoon. Instead, they're chased by mercenaries and Brian, totally unprepared, must survive one absurd obstacle after another.
How does Playdate end?
Playdate centers on Brian Jennings (played by Kevin James), a former accountant who is currently unemployed. He's friends with Jeff Eamon (Alan Ritchson), who stays at home. They plan a playdate with their respective children. However, things change when some mercenaries go after them.
Towards the end, CJ says to Brian that Jeff is not his biological father. Jeff was working as a guard when he found CJ held captive in a facility. The two manage to escape from that place. Jeff meets the other three as they are eventually chased by the goons, but decides to face off against the thugs. After a confrontation, their location is revealed, and the thugs take CJ. We realize that CJ is a clone of Jeff created by a scientist named Simon Maddox.
Maddox's boss is Colonel Kurtz, who plans to have an army of clone soldiers by his side. Kurtz had fired Jeff from the army because he was sympathetic. However, he landed the latter a security guard job at his facility, where they took Jeff's samples under the guise of a drug check.
CJ manages to come close to Jeff the more they interact. After being held captive, Kurtz tells CJ to kill Jeff. CJ decides to shoot Maddox dead and sides with Jeff to fight the mercenaries.
What happened to Alan Ritchson's Jeff in Playdate?

In the final scene of Playdate, Maddox handed over a weapon to CJ to kill Jeff. CJ, whose name literally means "clone of Jeff," is unable to eliminate Jeff. Instead, he shoots his own creator, Maddox. He opted to be with his new family and refuses to take orders. After Maddox is killed, the two team up to fight the goons. Once this is done, Jeff, CJ, Lucas, and Brian walk away in slow motion as the warehouse explodes.
There is also a post-credit scene where CJ and Jeff go to visit Brian at his house. They are planning a sleepover and mention that they had to burn their own house because some goons attacked them. Jeff has reunited with his clone son, CJ, and everything seems to be returning to normal.
Overall, the ending emphasizes that families aren't just biological but also with the ones we choose to be with.
The film is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
