Priscilla Pointer, an acclaimed actress known for her roles in Looking for Mr Goodbar, The Falcon and the Snowman, Blue Velvet, and Carrie, has passed on at the age of 100. The news was announced by her daughter, Amy Irving, via an Instagram post on April 29, 2025. She captioned the post as follows:
“Priscilla Pointer, May 18th, 1924-April 28th, 2025. Priscilla Pointer, acclaimed stage television and film actress and mother of David, Katie, and Amy Irving, died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 100, hopefully to run off with her 2 adoring husbands and her many dogs. She most definitely will be missed.”
In the post, Amy shared several images of Pricilla Pointer with members of her family.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Priscilla Pointer died on Monday, April 28, 2025, at an assisted living facility in Ridgefield, Connecticut. The 100-year-old actress died in her sleep.
Who was Priscilla Pointer?
Priscilla Marie Pointer was an American actress born in New York City on May 18, 1924. She started her career in acting in the late 1940s, playing some roles in theatre and appearing on Broadway.
Throughout her acting career, she appeared in 13 Broadway productions, including the original The Caucasian Chalk Circle, The East Wind, The Condemned of Altona, and Yerma. In addition to appearing on Broadway, Pointer also starred in quite a number of films, including the original film Carrie, where she played the onscreen mother of her daughter Amy's character.
She also starred in the films The Onion Field, Mommy Dearest, Twilight Zone: The Movie, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, and Blue Velvet, amongst others. In addition to Carrie, Priscilla also played the onscreen mother of Amy in Honeysuckle Rose and Carried Away. They also acted in the films Micki and Maude and The Competition.

Pointer also expanded her reach into television, appearing as a guest on several series, including Cold Case, The A-Team, Judging Amy, The Rockford Files, and L.A. Law. She also had a recurring role in the soap opera Dallas.
Priscilla married her first husband, Jules Irving, a film and stage director and former artistic director of Lincoln Center. They married in 1924 and were together until Irving died in 1979. After Irving's passing, Pointer married Robert Symonds in 1980, and they remained together until Symonds died in 2007.

Priscilla Pointer is survived by three children, including Katie Irving, actress Amy Irving, and director David Irving.
