Ralph Fiennes was born in Ipswich, UK, on December 22, 1962. He is the oldest of Jennifer Lash and Mark Fiennes' six children. His siblings are conservationist Jacob Fiennes, composer Magnus Fiennes, composer Sophie Fiennes, director Martha Fiennes, and actor Joseph Fiennes. Fiennes completed his education at Bishop Wordsworth School and attended Chelsea College of Art. He pursued a career in painting before deciding that acting was his true passion. After that, he received training from 1983 to 1985 at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.


Ralph Fiennes is perhaps renowned for portraying infamous villains like the evil Nazi Amon Goth in "Schindler's List" and Voldemort in the "Harry Potter" films. Fiennes has also been featured in films such as "The Menu," "The Grand Budapest Hotel," "Quiz Show," and "The English Patient." He was honored with a Tony Award for his portrayal of Prince Hamlet in the 1995 Broadway production of Shakespeare's "Hamlet." He has also won a BAFTA Award and has been nominated for three Academy Awards, an Emmy Award, and seven Golden Globes.

Ralph's acting career started on stage, where he gained fame with the Royal Shakespeare Company. He first appeared on screen in a 1992 adaptation of "Wuthering Heights" with Juliette Binoche. He had a career breakthrough when he was cast in the film "The Baby of Macon.” Even though the movie caused controversy, it nevertheless brought him exposure. He rose to international fame later that year when he played Amon Goth in Steven Speilberg's "Schindler's List." Fiennes received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars for his performance. Although he didn't receive the prize, his performance earned him a BAFTA Award. On AFI's selection of the greatest 50 movie villains, his portrayal of Goth came in at number 15. For his role opposite Kristin Scott-Thomas in the epic World War II romance "The English Patient," Fiennes received a 1996 Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
