In an interview with ComicBook, the producer of the forthcoming sequel, Ready or Not: Here I Come, James Vanderbilt, has made some revelations about the film.

The original 2019 film was a huge success both critically and commercially upon its release. Falling in the genre of horror, the film follows the plot of a newly wedded woman, Grace, who finds her in-laws making her partake in a dangerous, bizarre game where she finds her life to be at stake.

From this year on, it has been around 6 years since the original film was released until its sequel, Ready or Not: Here I Come, was made. Upon asking about the long gap of time the makers took in order to make their sequel, this is what Vanderbilt stated in the interview:

“There are a couple of different ways we are doing it. I don’t want to give anything away. It’s so early, and there is so little out there. What I will say is one of the reasons it has taken a minute to make this sequel was that we were really hard on ourselves on not just repeating what the first movie was, but also, not losing the sauce of what the first movie was.”

The writers from Ready or Not, Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy, have also returned to pen the script of its upcoming sequel. Vanderbilt further proceeds to talk about the approach the writers are taking in the writing of the film, as he continues:

“It’s interesting because there’s a debate all the way through as to what is real and what is not. That is answered at the end of the first movie, so you can’t put that Le Bail back in the bottle. What Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy do in this script is incredibly smart. As soon as they pitched it, it was, ‘Of course that’s what it is. That’s a great idea.’ It’s such a great way to tell this story. I am so excited for people to see it.”

The producer also reveals that Ready or Not: Here I Come shall explore more of the mythical story surrounding the Le Domas family. Vanderbilt also mentions how they did not want to repeat a storyline that sounds like the original film but rather wanted to make something that enhances the story, as he states:

“I think it’s safe to say we expand the mythology without explaining the entire mythology. I don’t know if that sounds exciting, but it’s exciting to us. I think it’s the right amount of worldbuilding, while still telling an amazing emotional story. We felt so privileged that people embraced that movie, that we didn’t want to revisit it if it was going to kinda be like, ‘Oh, look. They did it again.’ We were all okay leaving it be if we didn’t come up with something that we felt added to it, or in some ways, topped it. We are all really excited about what it is going to be.”

Along with the Ready or Not film series, Vanderbilt has also produced films including Slender Man (2018), The House with a Clock in Its Walls (2018), Ambulance (2022), Bed Rest (2022), Abigail (2024), and many more.

Also a writer, some of James Vanderbilt's works include films such as The Rundown (2003), Zodiac (2004), The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), Murder Mystery (2019), Scream (2022), and the latest release, Fountain of Youth (2025), etc.
